All the more reason to not watch the nba.
And since Howard Schultz sold them to those vultures, I don't see a reason to spend any more on his crappy coffee either.
Maybe if the entire city of Seattle turnd it's back on Starbucks, he'd get the message.
I spent too many years up there rooting for them to have this happen. My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -

A pro team in Oklahoma? Who paid, Reba or Toby?I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

Yeah, well they suck. I hope you enjoy that.
I'd find it hard to get up for games when noone shows up to watch and the city that almost lost the Mariners and the Seahawks couldn't find the $$$ to take care of/rebuild a decent arena............HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

I'll be interested to see what kind of fan base they get in OK. That doesn't seem like much of a basketball city/state anyway. I'll sad to see them leave, but at least we get to keep the Sonics name.
-
Enjoy 'em while you can, "Clay-Bag" Bennett.
When that 'new team smell' wears off, both you and Mr. Stern will realize that the weak market you're in will never be able to sustain an NBA franchise with any longevity.
OKC? Get real.
The NBA will be back in Seattle. I have no doubt. It's just a matter of when."I did not slap you. I high-fived your face." -
OKC was number 8 in attendance with the Hornets in town with over 18K ave. Seattle was 28th this year with fear of losing their team with barely 13k ave. attending. I would thought that if the city feared losing the team, they would have mustered more support than that..........HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Actually, when an owner threatens to leave, the population up there has a habit of giving them the one finger salute.
On the other hand, most of the time, they've gotten cheap owners that put an inferior product on the playing field, and it's hard to support a franchise that doesn't even try to field a winning team.
It's only changed in the last 10 yrs or so, with apperently the Sonics being the exception.
But then again, I've been away from Seattle for 9 yrs now, so I'm only getting the current story from friends and familyMy equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -
This probably would not have happened if the fans were dead set against it. And I mean calling all cars, blackhawk down, mushroom cloud, Three Mile Island, lock the door behind you kind of mad. Like we did here in Pittsburgh when they tried to take our Penguins. We threatened the mayor of Pennsylvania......I mean the governor (my bad) with his job. He was pretty much told by this half of the state that he may as well get on the moving truck with them. Well, at least they did not pull a 84 Baltimore Colts. I can still see the clip of that Mayflower truck leaving town...lol.And I mean calling all cars, blackhawk down, mushroom cloud, Three Mile Island, lock the door behind you kind of mad.

Let's re-examine attendance there in 5 years. The Sonics.. or "Dirt Puppies".. or whatever they will be called.. will no longer be a novelty.
And, if the team continues to struggle as they have.. that big arena down there will seem absolutely cavernous.
I think considering the horrible record, and the fact that no one here wanted to further line the pockets of that thieving **** owner.. attendance here wasn't bad.
David Stern is an absolute weasel to allow this kind of thing to happen, along with the other owners (Good for you, Cuban). And Clay Bennett is nothing but a deep-pocketed, heartless, claim-jumper."I did not slap you. I high-fived your face." -
It's pretty tough to get behind a team when they're already out of playoff contention in Feb.
Better hope your owners spend more than they did in Seattle. My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -
If Seattle/Schultz wanted to keep the team, I think the words "not for sale" would have been sufficient. You've got to remember that our state still brags about its early birds of the land run.....Sooners.;)

Clay Bennett also unloaded our team with the exception of our rookie Kevin Durant in hopes that the fans would stop attending because we sucked so bad. The sonics would have been competing for a championship this year if it wasn't for Clay. The roster would of had Ray Allen, Rashard Lewis and Kevin Durant running the floor. Knowing full well he would be in OKC in a couple years thats how he is building the team now. Depending on whatever moves they make in the next couple years they will be contenders again with all the rookies they have.
I do hope they tank in Oklahoma and once the new team novelty wears off the attendance drops. Only time will tell.My Home Theater (WIP):

"The Okie Supersonics" .... ?! That's about as bad as "The Utah Jazz".
Oh well. I look forward, as I always do, to the summer Olympics and watching "our" Superstars get their arses handed to them in spades by teams that know how to play as ..... teams.
Sure, those teams play BASKETBALL, but they sure don't "style" as good as our guys.
From what I understand, Clay Bennett did a thorough analysis of the OKC market before making the move.
In fact, for the first "Fan Appreciation Day", Mr. Bennett has announced that the first 5000 paid fans through the gates will receive a free bale of hay or bucket of wagon wheel grease (tax not included).
:rolleyes:Sal Palooza -
What are they gonna call the team? I'm sure the word COW will appear in there somewhere:DI refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

..well.....Bulls is already taken....The name Cows is too generic......hmmm.......The Oklahoma Angus?....too expensive sounding (15.99/lb on sale)...How about the Oklahoma Heifers?

The Oklahoma fans are a pretty intense bunch. Yes, they do love their sports.
Question is, are enough of them gonna pony up to watch pro basketball?
College sports do quite well in the Sooner state. Time will tell."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. You can't compare the two, thats just unfair. The team was moved there temporally, OKC would obviously have higher attendance to watch a pro team(from what I can remember, OKC never had a pro sport of any kind, at least lately). This probably would not have happened if the fans were dead set against it. And it is sad that most of the OU fans across the nation don't know that the team was named after a bunch of cheaters
I think the Sonics will have more success in OKC than the Grizzlies have done in Memphis, but that isn't saying much....Tschüss

I'd like to see a perjury investigation come about. See how Clay-Clay likes running that team from federal prison."I did not slap you. I high-fived your face."

All excellent points. I'm certain attendance will be great the first year. I dislike hockey, but even I'd go to a game if Seattle had an NHL team for a year.
Seattle fans knew Clay was bending us over. There has been a strong resentment, and fans have been showing that by not going.
Stern is an **** too. It wasn't too long ago that he was praising the KeyArena. -

I'm sure he did, but its interesting that he didn't consider other larger markets as well. Lets be honest, his only goal was to bring the team to his home state. -
And supposedly Mr. Bennett has plans to hang a duplicate 1979 championship banner in their building down there.. and a replica championship trophy.
PUKE."I did not slap you. I high-fived your face." -
Where did you hear that?

Article in the Seattle Times by Percy Allen: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sonics/2008031378_soniside03.html
Bennett retains the rights to the Sonics' name, history and colors but doesn't intend to use them, saying he "will return them to the team if a team returns to Seattle in the term."
Bennett said at a news conference in Oklahoma City that the original team banners and 1979 championship trophy will stay in Seattle, but "we will create duplicate banners and championship trophy that we believe will be assets we want to have.""I did not slap you. I high-fived your face."
