Everything has it's limits. If you didn't hear the CLACK of a bottom, it was probably distortion. Do you know where Audessey calibrates reference level ? -0 maybe way above reference. I have mine calibrated to 75dbs @ -25, so -15 is reference. When I demo at reference it's almost enough to drive you out of the room. Most movies I watch are in the -25 to -20 range.

I would think it was bottoming out, that would be some insane distortion to be experiencing at those levels.
Just a thought... Could there be an issue with the amp keeping up? -
I would just turn it down a few notches, get another glass of wine, and enjoy the rest of the movieDKG999

What was happening in that scene? Are you running at or above reference there (85 dB)?

Have you tried any of the other disc from the AVS list in the OP? I've tried both of the Eragons scenes you posted, and while both get pretty low, my SVS didn't seem to have any trouble with it, maybe you have a bad disc, alot of earlier BD's where know to have little audio and video quirks.Casey

this is the 1st time i notice it. i never play it at such head splitting level before - since its happening on both the conquest and the danley, either coming from the room or something else other than the subsmy 7.(1x4) HT setup

Do you have your PC hooked up to your rig? Just download some test tones and play them till you find the frequency and/or level that's wrecking your foundation or bottoming out the driver."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

It's possible the pre is clipping before the sub is. (so the sub is accurately reproducing the clipped signal it is receiving.)

its definitely not the poweramps clipping for sure- the dts20 has a 2000w bridged amp driving it, the conquest a 1000w. it doesnt seem to sound "electronic"...sounds mechanical/wooden come to think of it - the sounds is so non-directional, seems like the limit the dry walls can take ?...i'll track it down in the day timemy 7.(1x4) HT setup

Didn't say the amp - I was thinking the preamp before it sent the signal to the amp. Could also just be something in the house that resonates at that frequency / volume. (heck - could even be the DAC clipping)
Either way, it does not sound like it is the sub...Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)

Is the limiter on the amp disabled? Does the clipping light illuminate when this happens?"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche
-
nope no clipping light
the limiter is en-abled. the guy that sold me the sub/amp told me that your amp company says that it will not affect the performance and its good to keep it there just to make sure it does not take out the sub ...
i'm starting to believe its something in the room thats causing itmy 7.(1x4) HT setup

Any SPL meter results yet? -
When I was running dual subs I ran an amp with a limiter ---
When the limiter kicked in, the subs made the most horrendous sound. I kept them off and the headroom was greatly increased...
Sometimes an amps gotta clip when an amps gotta clip... its important that it dosnt clip to long though- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
