I read a review in the AJC by Roger Edbert two days ago. He started by saying something to the extent of... "I know that a lot of reviewers will probably disagree with me, but....". He dug the flick, plain and simple. From what I've seen of the previews, I have a feeling I will too. There really seems to be a mob mentality when it comes to things like this.

Shadow puppets? Are you serious? Where are these jokers during Big Momma's House? I'm as crazy as the next guy, but give me a break.

    End of transmission.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Exactly... it was a laughable movie. And the ads piped loudly about it being M. Night's first R-rated movie, but... the gore was really useless. I'm all for some splatter, but it was senseless and extraneous here, and after the initial scene of the construction workers jumping, not remotely scary.

"We have to stay ahead of the wind!" F*$king retarded.

I hated hated hated hated this movie. I'm hit or miss with M. Knight movies though. I seriously wondered if they asked Mark Wahlberg to act as cheesy as possible as some kind of "symbolic" element of the story. I've seen him do a pretty decent job acting in some other movies, but he didn't talk like himself in this one. Everything was over pronounced and goofy sounding like when British actors try to do an American accent.

He is a decent actor but he was so awful in this it falls back on the director as to why. Just like Natalie Portman in the SW's films. She's a good actress but Lucas's direction made her out to be a piece of cardboard standing in front of the camera.

WORST MOVIES OF 2008 from MSN

    7) "The Happening"

What we said: "[Director M. Night] Shyamalan's failure to make gusts of wind blow fear into the hearts of moviegoers isn't the only reason why 'The Happening' fails to click as an effective horror film; weak direction of actors, a meandering screenplay, and a particularly anemic ending all add up to a misfire that, despite an admittedly original premise and a promise to ramp up the gruesome imagery, largely lacks any real sense of tension or danger." -- Jason Buchanan, AMG

What you said: "I did not expect laughter during a suspense thriller but unfortunately it was warranted. I could not determine if the actors were specifically trying to not act or if they just appeared that way on their own. If you look at it in the same light as Rocky Horror Picture Show then it might become a classic. There would be a Watch Your Step scene, a Don't Pet the Kitty scene, a Breaking Wind scene and a Buckle Your Seat Belt scene and my personal favorite would likely be the Don't Touch the Cookie scene. Unless it is very late night and there is a lot of alcohol involved I do not recommend this picture to anyone." -- MovieFan630, MSN Movies visitor

We liked it OK, but his movies are getting weaker.

    "Signs" was great.

Why does this **** keep getting directing jobs.

Bought it blind for like $3 at movie gallery and even at $3 I feel I got ripped off.

Im a big fan of Mark Wahlberg but God did he suck in this one. The story was ridiculous, the acting was sub par and the dialogue was pretty crappy too. Basically, the trailer was the best part of this movie. The only movie worse than this is The Village....which coincidentally was directed by the same moron as this one.
