My son and I were out shooting some hoops today and Dad had his sunglasses knocked off his head and the rest is history. The kid is getting good. Anyway, I had a decent pair of aviator sunglasses that I purchased about 10 years ago (time for a new pair) and I think I purchased them at Sears. I have no idea about brand names so I was wondering if any of you folks had suggestions. I saw a pair of Serengeti 6782 that looked similar and the lenses about the same size as my old ones.

My old ones have this code on one of the arms which means zip to me. It is worn a bit and it looks like:

I stopped wearing Wayfarers 15 years ago when I picked up a pair of Serengeti Drivers. Its the only brand I ever buy anymore. I wear the Aviator style with Drivers Lenses usually. Can't beat these for driving (which I do a lot of).

I also have a pair with Sedona Lenses. The rose tint sure makes everything have a warm, pleasant appearance. If you looking for a pair of Serengeti's for activities, I'd recommend the Summit Frames. You could also try the Pilot 1 - Aviator frames, they have ear hooks.

The Aviators usually stay in the Jeep, the Summits get put on for everything else.

I think is will do the Serengeti 6782. They see to fit the bill and do not dwindle down my audio account. God knows it would make a difference.

I've always preferred the Maui Jim's myself. I just found my B-day Sunglass Hut coupon so I'm headed there tomorrow to pick up a new pair.

Maui Jim makes some really good glasses for the money, they make Oakley look like junk in comparison, IMO. I will get another pair, mine got robbed by the royal Jordanians at the airport.:(

    +1 allday.

But I suggest taking a ride to your local Sunglass hut and check out all that they carry. You may find something cool. They also carry Oakley which is what I wear and have for the last 18 years.

For me its whatever is free, which right now is tifosi, they are not very good though.

There was a time when I had bro deal on Oakley and I really like them, they have good optics but I am not really into their styling anymore.

With a lot of the cheap glasses, tifosi, rudy project and others is the optics are not good and make your eyes continualy refocus depending on what part of the lens you are looking through.

I would like to try out some of the Adidas and specialized glasses because they get great reviews but some of those are over 200 smackers so without a serious bro deal thats a no go for me.

Maui Jim's - Best Polorized you can get. (My Opinion)
I had a pair stolen from a hotel. I bought a pair of RayBan Polarized to replace and the clerk said, "Youve had Mauis, you'll be back".

She was right!!!! 1 week later exchanged and shelled out the extra Cnote for more Mauis :(

That's one reason I like the Maui Jim's, their polorized lenses are fantastic. Plus, their build quality is also very impressive. My biggest gripe with Oakley's are the styling, I just don't like it. My last pair was RayBan, they lasted almost two years before falling apart, for what I paid, I expected better so no more RayBan's.

I currently have some oakley's not cause I am partial to them, but they were a present from my dad, so ya....Honestly, this is going to sound cheesy but, the aviators that American Eagle sell are a really great style, granted u get what u pay for, but if u need some temp. glasses untill u find ur perm. fit, those are a good option!

I've got Oakley Bottlecap polarized glasses and like them a lot. They run about $175.

Exactly what happened to my Ray's, arm broke in less then 2 years. I won't buy another pair for that reason.

I don't spend enough time on the water to warrant polarized lenses. I usually chose non polarized lenses. Usually they have better light transmittance. (Non Polarized = 24% light transmittance - 9% dark transmittance, Polarized = 15% light trnasmittance - 9% dark transmittance).

The higher light transmittance, lets me keep the glasses on during storms, haze and wet roads. The advantage of keeping the glasses on is that since they block out more blue light (shortest wave length & what causes light scatter and to appear hazy) I can see better in those conditions with the glasses on.

I should also say I do own a polarized pair of Maui Jim's. I usally take those out on a boat. I like them fine, I just don't get much chance to wear them.

I wear my polarized Ray Ban 's when I drive because they kill the glare off of the dashboard. The only problem is when I fill up at gas stations and LCD displays don't show. :D

Maybe that's good, then I can't see the prices... hmmmmmmmm.

Rudy Project are not cheap, and their optics are excellent.

    Otherwise, carry on. ;)

Native makes great stuff. More sporty styles though. But if they ever break, even if you throw them on the ground, they replace them no questions asked. Some of the best customer service I've ever heard of.
