CS400 Question

On such a lovley Sunday morning i decided to start tinkering around with all the speakers (i.e. tightening all the connections...) and i noticed my cs400 sounds a little funny. It seems as if the left woofer plays more of the highs and the right woofer, which is much quieter, plays more of the bass. There is definitely sound coming out of both but its not the same.
Any ideas whats going on?

Hello,
I believe that center channel speaker has a cascaded crossover, meaning the two drivers don't reproduce the same frequency spectrum. If you look at Polk's technology page they describe what this is. There's nothing wrong with your speaker that's the way its supposed to sound, my friend.

That is 100% correct. If it didn't, you would get comb filtering, which is bad...

"When two speaker drivers are placed near each other, destructive interference between the two drivers in the upper-midrange creates frequency response errors (called "comb filtering") and degrades imaging. This also collapses the sound stage and narrows the dispersion capability of the speaker.
To solve this problem, multi driver LSi, RTi towers, Monitor towers, TSi towers and high end CSi models use "Cascade Tapered Array" crossovers. One driver is crossed over much lower in frequency and is in essence a bass-only driver. Only one driver plays the upper midrange frequency range thereby eliminating the interference effects between the two drivers.

it's not a matter of which is better.. both are different and used in different applications. I would think the difference is in the crossover design.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
