Recommendations for cordless phones

Right now I've got a single GE 5.8 GHz and a single no-name brand (Ativa) 2.4GHz, the latter of which I got at Office Depot for $10 (after mail-in rebate). Now -- a year later -- I know why it was only $10 (pretty poor quality).

I'm wondering if anyone here has had good luck with any brands/models of cordless phones. It seems like cordless phones are getting higher and higher in Hz (I remember an old one that was 900 Hz), but I'm not sure whether these advances translate into real improvements. I know that there are a lot of well-known brands out there, but I'd like to hear recommendations based on personal experience, with clarity being the crucial consideration.

I'm leaning toward replacing both, hopefully with a two-unit set (if one has answering machine, all the better).

Thanks.

Get DECT 6.0 based phone and you wouldn't have to worry about interference etc. I am using following Panasonic set for 6 months and am very happy so far:

I used a set of Uniden like this setup with answering machine for a couple years and loved it. Cost was $179 when I bought it....$64 bucks would be a great deal. 5.8Ghz was crystal clear and no interference with other devices for me.

I went with one of the new Panasonic 5.8GHz models......works great, as do the extra 3 handsets that came with the system.

I would recommend the Panasonic as well. I've had Sony, GE and Uniden and these Panasonics are the best yet!

I second the DECT 6.0 panasonic set above. It replaced a combination of GE and a Panasonic phone last December. The Panasonic was about 10 years old, the GEs lasted maybe 5 years. I either got my new phones from amazon or buy.com. We got 3 handsets for about $80, so per phone they are even pretty cheap. They work great.

    Another vote for Panasonic.

Also, I think that old set you had was 900MHz, not 900Hz. :)
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

People who can spell and form correct sentences often use land line phones.

Idiots such as ihatethis must not be able to master the concept.

    Panasonic phone?

I got one a 2 line cordless phone with answer machine, HATE that phone sounds like ****. Also own a VTech cordless phone system, which sounds great believe it is 2.4ghz but it's only marked as "Gigaphone" The only problem I have is the VTech phones are getting old and need a replacement, but been so turned off by Panasonic its way off my list.

In fact that phone may have a horrible death, only if I owned a tree limb cropper..... Bits and Pieces baby I what to have trouble saying what it was after. ;)

I'm in my second set of Vtech and I am very happy with them; had a 900 MHz, and now I have a pair of 2.4 MHz that came as a set. You plug one to the phone line, and the other one you just plug to an electrical outlet for charging. They work great, both handsets have speaker phones, no interference at all with my wireless network, and what's most important to me is that the batteries last forever. I do a lot of conference calls when working from home and I can be 2 hours with the speaker phone.
Best of all, they are not expensive.
Befor Vtech I had a couple of Panasonic but had to replace batteries too often.
