Ok I am selling a turntable on EBay... I get the first bid and only bid so far today and the buyer has zero feedback.. and is from Italy. I know that is questionable right there.. I specifically stated in the auction no international shipping.
So we'll see how things go, but I ain't shipping a turntable to Italy that's for dang sure.
This happen to anyone else? where the bids are bogus? It bugs me.. because it's blown out my starting bid.. and now my buyers are only going to see the price at the reserve.. thinking someone really wants the table.
I'll wait and let it play out or should i go ahead and email the "buyer" from Italy and see what's up?

You should be able to cancel the bid and state the reason for the cancellation.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country!

You can do that, as Raife suggested, you can also set it up in your seller preferences to not allow bidders from countries from which you do not ship.
Email the buyer, if it weren't for the overseas market (including Italy - I've shipped plenty of gear there), I'd be a poor man. Fundage is fundage.
USPS to Alaska / Hawaii / Canada and APO is the way to go.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
Why would you check to see if he's legit when you have no intention of shipping it to him in the first place???
Cancel his bid and move on.
USPS is fine to Alaska. It is still part of the USA, ya know!Political Correctness'.........defined

I have also shipped many items off ebay overseas last being a pair of DCM QED's the shipping was more than the winning bid..but $$$$ talks and as long as the funds are in hand before shipping not a problem... -

i'm confused here.. when you shipped the DCM's, the shipping cost more than the winning bid? so you lost the deal? You didn't make any money on the sale? :eek:PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

So, how do you determine that he is legit and why would it make a difference if you're not shipping to him anyway? Come on Al.Political Correctness'.........defined

Come on Danger Boy, he's paying the shipping right? Buy it a first class ticket, set it in the overhead and have yourself a little vacation. Lago di Como is nice in June! The world is full of answers, some are right and some are wrong. - Neil Young

I had someone from Spain that was bidding on an auction twice last week. I canceled the bid the first time and when it popped up again, I canceled the bid then blocked him from bidding again. I even stipulate in my auctions that if they have a feedback of 10 or less, I reserve the right to cancel the bids if they don't contact me first.
All the explanation I give those bidders is that the auction is only CONUS and NOT worldwide.Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? Or is it........................Spanky?.................................Sinner. -
I sent a tennis racket to Japan in one of my e-bay transactions. It's been awhile but I believe the buyer used a "third" party shipping company and I ended up sending it to a US address and that "third" party company sent it to Japan.
Sometimes you never know that what's in the closet someone else will pay a ridiculous amount for. I think the Japanese gentleman paid $125 for a used tennis racket and I have no idea what he spent with the "third" party shipping company. I admit the tennis racket was somewhat vintage as in it's day (the early 80's) it was a very popular and expensive model, but still.......I was thrilled to get that kind of coin for something sitting in the closet unused for years.
My point is maybe the buyer in Italy can arrange a "third" party shipper and you don't have to deal with shipping overseas.
I believe my buyer used a company called USBUYER.COM
http://www.us-buyer.com/english.html
Looks like this is a service ebay endorses and it's for Japan transactions only. Perhaps there is this type of service for Europe.

Yes, we can assume that he knows in advance to use third party shipper and has already done multiple ebay buying....DB has a bidder with 0 feedback...
I don't mind shipping international as long as shipping is paid and the buyer has feedback that reflects his effort to get the item oversea...but again with 0 feedback who knowsVideo: LG 55LN5100/Samsung LNT4065F

I emailed my zero feedback bidder to ask if he was indeed in Italy, no response yet. I will cancel the bid if I don't hear from him by tonight.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I never believed in cancelling a bid from someone with zero feedback. Their money is just as green as the next guy. I also encourage you to sell internationally, especially these days when the dollar is weak. I'd say at this point half of my sales end up going to international buyers - it just means you need to fill out a customs form, no big deal.
However, I can see why you would hesitate before shipping a turntable internationally, that could get dicey.
What I would recommend is that you block bids from location to which you do not ship. That way, as long as you specify that shipping is only to USA, you will only get USA bids.
I have also changed my selling policies to only allow paypal bidding. The only exception that I'll make is when I receive a message from someone asking if they can bid, and then I add them to my exception list. Paypal fees are a bit high, but overall it's quite worth it. A paypal account must be tied to a live bank account, and a given bank account can only be used by a single paypal account. So it's a lot more difficult for the fraudsters to use paypal accounts because of this. Before I blocked non-paypal bidders, I used to get so many scams on my sales ("Can you ship the laptop to my uncle in Nigeria as I am a pastor travelling on my crusade... He will escrow the funds with Western Union"). Ever since I switched to paypal only, I haven't had a single issue, and every auction has ended with me receiving payment.
I'd rather have a buyer with no feedback but a legitimate paypal account than a buyer with no paypal account but 20 positive feedbacks for buying gumballs from Africa...Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -
if it was something other than a turntable.. i'd prob be ok shipping outside the US. turntables are delicate beasts even if packed properly. which this one will be.
I have changed my preferences to only accept bids from buyers in the US for my next auctions. Everyone starts out on Ebay with zero feedback.. that's just life. but the scams usually take place with zero feedbackers. I am ok with selling to a zero feedback buyer.. but I would never buy from a zero feedback seller... double edged sword i guess.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

It's not even as simple as not buying from sellers with zero feedback. When you're making a serious purchase on ebay, you really need to research the seller. Obviously the sellers with thousands of + feedback are probably legit, but a lot of times what scammers will do is sell small, cheap items just to acquire a feedback history. Then they pull the scam! Beware of a seller on ebay moving a piece of high-end audio gear after they've been selling paper clips for a few months!!!Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.
