This is an online petition soliciting signatures supporting a Congressional domestic drilling initiative. If you support drilling in the U.S., sign it. If not, then don't. There's no need for this to turn into a debate.

It's a joke to think that drilling in Alaska is going to suddenly make gas drop down to $2.00 again.

I will pass, but good luck.

Before you sign it.. or dismiss it.. educate yourself first on whether or not this will amount to any significant change. And by that I mean dollars at the pump.. or damage to the environment.. or whatever other issues might come out of it. If, after some research, you still want to put your name on it, cool. But spend some time first.

Now that our ADD tendencies are apparent, back to the oil debate/petition. If any of you get the Wall Street Journal, there has been a bunch of articles about Congress's own policies/laws that strangle them from making any headway in domestic production. Even if they repeal those laws today, the oil companies are still years away from any actual production.

I added my name to the list. While it may not have an immediate impact, it is a step in the right direction. It's kind of like your retirement account, you can't expect to be a millionaire in a few years, but keep putting money into it and let it work and by the time you are ready to retire you should be set.

(I know there is a lot more to it than just that but most people should get the analogy).

    Thanks for the link F1.

While it should help with the price of oil, keep in mind that when / if this moves forward we will see absolutely no benefits to it for at least 6 years. By that time I worry that oil will be much much higher and we would have moved away from it even more so than today.

So this may all be a moot point. A good idea, IMO, if it was done 8 years ago or whenever this was previously proposed but at this point I have to wonder... will it be worth it? It may make oil cheaper in about 6+ years but by then I would have to imagine the prices will already be very high compared with today and we may be weening off oil.

I was personallly involved with getting Congress to allow offshore drilling in the Gulf offshore Florida. This was a 2 yr battle that unfortunately Florida won. We can not drill for oil within 100 miles of the coastline (and some case 125 miles). Yet, the state of Florida is one of the top 4 states for energy consumption. How's that for sate politics? I could go on forever but would bore you with statistics. BTW, the well we wanted to drill was 98 miles from the coastline.
