RM6200-stardard hook up vs the Polk way

When I first purchased the RM6200 w/ my HK avr 110 I bought it as an open box item so I didn't get a manual with the system. So, I hooked everything up the traditional way and it sounded pretty good to me. Then, when I bought my HK avr 146 I hooked everyhting up the same way and it didn't sound as good. Then I found this site, downloaded the manual and saw the Polk Way of hooking everthing up, so I tried it and it sounded better. Then I read a thread on here a while back that said movies encoded with DTS send a LFE signal directly to the LFE channel, so if you have your speakers set up the Polk Way, you'll be missing out on some LFE signals. So, before watching Rambo on BD I hooked everthing back up the standard way and it didn't sound that great. I had to make a lot of adjustments. I've watched BD movies with DTS with my system hooked up the Polk Way and I thought they sounded pretty good. So, am I really missing out on anything with my speakers connected the Pok Way when watching movies encoded with DTS?

    Hello,
The Polk method is done to make sure the sub plays up, in frequency, to the low frequency ability of the sats. Usually this is around 120 to 150Hz. When you use the bass management, of the receiver, to have the fronts as "large" and the sub-out turned off the receiver will send the "LFE" information for either Dolby or DTS to the front speakers and since that's where the sub is connected you'll hear it fine.
    Cheers, Jed

+ 1 with what Jed said.

I previously had my RTi10s, with my PSW505 and now my LSi9s still hooked up the Polk way - it sounds THAT much better to me that way. With my new receiver, I tried the sub out, but the bass from the sub just wasn't there.

    Enjoy the "Polk" way ;)

I agree as well. I have tried both ways with my satelites and the "Polk way" or passive sub woofer way sounds best to me.

I also went back and forth on this a few years ago with my RM6600 series - I ended up using the POLK way and LOVE it (though ALL the audio guys at stores say I'm stupid).
