i'm new to the club polk forum .but, a long time listener to the sda's.have owned a pair of 2.3tl's that i sold to buy a pair of martin-logan sequels...BIG f@#$%g mistake..i now have a pair of 2.3's that i've owned since the early 90's. after building much diy tube gear for 15+years i'm upgrading my system ie. new tubes, better connectors etc. now its the speakers turn.i'm looking at the mods for the 2.3's and my questions are as follows.
1. should i convert the 2.3's to 2.3tl's crossovers, tweeters etc.
2.i see everyone debating the merits of the cardas connectors but, mere inches away you have what look to be molex\ generic friction fit connectors connecting the actual drivers to the crossover ..seems to me to kind of undo the super sturdy speaker connects...has anyone actually soldered the wiring to the crossover? i know why it was done ...ease of assembly etc...
has anyone actually removed the stock components and tested them with a lcr meter? what tolerances did polk have vs. what was on the schematic....

Trying to change a pair of 2.3's into 2.3TL's is going to cost you, big time. Totally different drivers, tweeters and crossovers including different inductors. You'd spend more doing that than you would buying a pair of 2.3TL's.Political Correctness'.........defined

i keep hearing about the "tl mod" to speakers that aren't tl's. adding a 5.8 mf cap..i have the original sl-2000 tweets installed. but ,i have read that alot of people go from the rdo194-1 (the correct replacement)to the tl mod 198's and add a 5.8 mf cap .also what are the feelings on the bucking magnets that polk sells to keep the speakers from giving the pretty rainbow colors on the tv monitors (added these on mine).am also thinking about a hardwired crossover so i don't have to try to pile large value caps onto the crossover.

thanks for the info.i think i'll tweak the 2.3's for a while.it was a big mistake to sell the 2.3tl's.thats what happens when you stop using your brain and start reading "stereopile". will keep members posted on my progress...tony

Just to be clear, you can't add a 5.8 cap and RD0198-1 tweeters to the 2.3's and turn them into 2.3TL's.Political Correctness'.........defined

Right, all you gotta do is just replace the SL2000 tweeters with SL3000 tweeters.:)Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country!
