I swapped my tubes with some JJ Tesla tubes like Bunky suggested on Audiocircles..

What a difference in staging --

Far more precise, much smoother and expanded sound. Even on a rinky dink CD.

Great upgrade for 30 bucks...

    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    They're actually 82. The 802 by JJ is the gold pin version of the 82. It's not actually a true 802. The only difference would be the pins, not internals like the real 802.

    Sounds good Trey. Glad you're enjoying the tube rolling. Give them about 100 hours or so to open up. The JJ is my fav out of the current production tubes in the ECC82 family.

    Man - this is easilly the best 30 bucks Ive ever spent on my rig.

    I am listening to some jazz right now, and the instruments sound soooo good. Very smooth and textured. I like it.

    Just for kicks I ordered a pair of these for my preamp. I paid $24 from Tube Depot. We'll see how they compare to the Jan Phillips I'm using now.

    The high end is so much cleaner with these tubes too. It no longer sounds "fuzzy" ya know what I mean?

    Its crisp, fast, and clean.

    Tell Klaus to put those tubes in Candela's and sell them as "special edition" or "modded." He can charge 15% more for the ones with the Teslas; clients are happy cuz it sounds better than the stock/regular version, and you can tell him to split the proceeds with you.

    I never thought tubes could make such a difference. Just listening, general listening --- what a fantastic difference. Amazing detail.

    The JJ Tesla tubes I ordered came in today. I popped them in with a couple tube dampers and it sounds a bit muffled and flat compared to my Jan Phillips. So they sound like crap brand new. I'll give it time to break in and will update this.

    They arrived very well packaged from Tube Depot.

    We don't know that for sure yet. It isn't fair to judge these tubes before they break in.

    Did you send the Candela to Klaus? I thought it had a buzz issue or something?

    Try them without the dampers. Sometimes over-damping can make the system sound less lively. Also, the sound character of the JJ is very different than JAN Phillips tubes. Every JAN Phillips I've tried are more bright and edgy. JJ's house sound is very much like the NOS Western European stuff like Mullard. Warmer, darker, more laid back, etc.

    Hopefully they'll be more to your liking after some break in time.
