We're going to have to agree to disagree on that one.

    I agree!:D

You have to admit, however, SACD has a weighter sound to music where vinyl sounds more open and airy.

I have box 3470. All the LPs have been cleaned and I started to listen to them yesterday. Listened to two and both have significant surface noise. What a big dissapointment!
The "Unknown Soldier" was incredible. In the marching passage you could hear the firing squad parade start marching far to the left and march across the stage to slightly right of center and the soldiers spread out in front of you. When the rifles fired you could hear what sounded like five rifles going off from the left speaker to the right seamlessly.

This was clearly audible along with all the snap, crackle and pop!

I am not amused. Just about all the used records I have play better than the two noted above.

Wowee! Something is wrong. Mine are about as good as it gets. Could something be awry with your system? What fluids did you wash them with? Did you use a RCM? Is the stylus clean? If it's definitely shown to be the LP's, then you understandably should not be a happy camper and get $$ back or a new set. Maybe just play a record without washing and see?:confused::confused::confused:

Four of my covers need replacing. When I sent a message to Rhino, I also asked if I needed to check the LPs as there have been reports of LPs with lots of surface noise. They suggested I check each record due to the complaints.

All were cleaned on the 16.5 with Tergitol and Vinyl-Zeme, then rinsed with ultra pure water just like the countless others before. A new 180g copy of Jazz At the Pawnshop cleaned up wonderfully and sounds amazing; about 2-3 pops etc. per side.

    Its not the system!

I am glad yours are fine.

I will go through the remaining LPs and contact Rhino again ...

You convinced me!! I think you should be really ticked off. Only time will tell to see what percentage of the pressings were bad. I did not hear anything about surface noise complaints until your report. Geez. What a shame!! :(:(

John, Larry, I had very minor surface noise from time to time and I attributed it to dust. When I did a sweep again the surface noise was not present. John Rhino will replaced anything not up to snuff including the LPs, it takes 4 to 6 weeks to arrive once reported.

Sonics are off the charts awesome, however, the LP is a mess.

It is warped and has something burned into it on both sides. It is very visible on the runout grooves. It looks like the multi-colored holograph water marks used on driver's licenses and the such.

I tried removing it with a chemical well known for removing mold release compounds and factory grunge but that didn't remove it neither did the rest of my cleaning routine. There was lots of surface noise and mucho pops and ticks.

I have 00816/12500. Four LPs and jackets are being replaced. I also asked to have the literature replaced due to wear marks on the front.

Just received a phone call from home stating all the replacement LPs have arrived! According to the Doors Official Message Board, most or all shipments should now be in transit.

I hope the quality of these LPs are better than the original pressing. All of the original ones I received should make great Frisbees this summer.

I don't want all the mold release compounds and factory grime getting all over my platter and stylus. The junk gets welded on and with the downforce of the Clamp it embeds in the delrin platter.

    So I'm obsessive . . . that's is truely no secret!:D

I know this is old but I just saw your newer post in this thread. What do you use to get rid of the mold compound on new records? I'm buying quite a few lately and am not entirely happy just with my usual tergitol 6-9 rinse repeat vacumn method. Thanks.

In the same vein as the above post...are there any good threads in the archive on record cleaning ? I'm not too lazy to do a search, I'm just not too good at it.:(:D

    Kelvin,

I use MFSL Super Deep Record Cleaner. You can get it at Elusivedisc.com.

After you do scrub it in you then use your Tergitol rinse.

Search for a thead started by me called "Heartbroken & Devasted." I believe I also have a separate thread that I started on my record cleaning method. It's a little obsessive but it works very well.

Cleaned all the LPs over the weekend and played them to ensure all is well. LA Woman has a mark on the ‘The Changeling’ which produces noise. Looks like something substantial hit the LP at that spot when it was packaged. Guess I will be contacting Dr. Rhino once again…

On a side note, I cleaned the LPs using the new MoFi Plus Enzyme cleaning solution with a MoFi brush followed by a rinse of ultrapure water using a different brush. This produced very good results, but I through it could be better. I tried cleaning several using the same solution but changed to a carbon fiber brush instead of the MoFi brush. This was much better as virtually all the surface noise was removed. I will be going back over the previously cleaned records and others as well using the carbon fiber brush.
