I would have to take:
Chris Squire - Yes
John Entwistle - The Who
Both wield them as well as almost any lead guitarist.

I never noticed clapton cause my ear was allways on jack bruce and ginger baker.
The real me by the who, entwisle(sp) is sick.
Don't know his name but I liked the bass player from Biohazard. -
Duh,
John Paul Jones is the most underrated bassist in history, IMO. With Jimmy Page and Robert Plant to focus on JPJ tends to get lost in the mix. After listening to several bootlegs where JPJ playing is emphasized he is just one of the most talented and creative bass players I've heard.
Check out Tal Wilkenfeld a smallish female from Australia who in her 20's is a fantastic bass player. Most recently she has been touring with Jeff Beck and the set he plays at the most recent Eric Clapton Guitar Festival (DVD) she is smoking hot!!!! She just started playing bass a few years ago if she keeps up at this pace she will be a legend. Jeff Beck doesn't just play with any old musician.

Evan Sienfeld---doesn't really impress me at all especially after seeing the reality show Super Group. He's not bad just nothing special IMO."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. John Entwistle was definitely the man. He did a solo during 5:15 when I saw them doing Quadrophenia that blew my mind.
Geddy Lee's no slouch either.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -

What, everyone's forgotten about Jack Casady? No other human can play like he can.

Being a bassist myself, I tend to enjoy true virtuosos.
Brian Bromberg, Victor wooten, and Michael Manring are some of my faves.

I don't believe it took 27 posts before someone mentioned him. Either keeping up with Bela Fleck or playing solo, he's absolutley amazing.John in MA wrote: »What, everyone's forgotten about Jack Casady? No other human can play like he can.
I've never seen a tighter combo of guitar and bass then when he plays with Jourma in Hot Tuna.
I'll add 2:
Willie Dixon
Charles Mingus
Both incredible bass players and composers.Wristwatch--->Crisco -
