Problem with tube amp

I just bought a second hand Jolida integrated amp. It was necessary to buy a new set of power tubes (E34Ls). They are biased to Jolida specs (40 +/- 4). All between 40 and 41 actually.
Upon my first listening, the right channel volume is very low. When the volume is turned up enough to hear the right channel, say 50%, it is very, very distorted. I have swapped both pre-amp and power tubes and the problem stays with the right channel. The previous owner says the problem did not exist prior to shipment. I have opened her up and can see no obvious signs of trouble.
Before I cart her off to the tech, does this problem ring a bell for anyone? Any troubleshooting ideas?

try the obvious first--- like cleaning and retensioning the tube sockets. usual caveats about lethal voltage, etc apply. sometimes the pins on tubes are slightly different sizes between brands. if your new tubes have smaller pins, there could be a poor mechanical (and thus electrical) connection.
