    * She is at best an uninteresting singer. I actually find her to be pretty poor; she sounds like a Canadian trying to sound slightly soulful.

That's exactly what I really wanted to say...

Krall is a simply a product of marketing hype. She is the Britney Spears of the jazz genre. She won't go down in the annals of history as a great jazz singer.

I like her, but I like Mary Stalling and Patricia Barber even more :)

SS - you like Mary Stallings? OK, you got good taste. Mary is a true jazz singer.

Jane Monheit or Cassandra Wilson are good. Krall sounds like she's just going through the motions. She has good sound, but puts no emotion into her performance.

Yeah, I would say Mary Stalling pretty much shows everyone else in Jazz how it's done. I have several of her albums but my favorite is "Fine and Mellow" on Gold Disc.

"Live at the Vanguard" is pretty good too.

If you guys like Krall, you'll cream in your panties once you hear anything by Dianne Reeves, the reigning queen of contemporary jazz.

I have an SACD by Terrance Blanchard, Reeves vocals are featured on two of the tracks and she is smokin hot, the disc also has Jane Monheint, Cassandra Williams and Krall, of course the SACD is out of print but this one is a winner, there are also a few instrumental tracks where Blanchard does his stuff.

As far as Krall, I have been a fan, but, I caught her on HDNET TV at the Montreal Jazz festival, ugh, maybe she was having a bad night, but she looked dumpy in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt looking thing, she sang lousy, she struggled at the piano, and she had zero stage presence, ruined my Krall fantasies.

Sounds like Britney Spears on her MTV Awards Comeback after her breakdown . . .
