LSi25 amplifier

I have a Pair of LSi25 cherry towers and a PSW1000 for really only 20-50ish Hz. All of the subs are being fed the full-range out from my Kenwood VR-9070 receiver since its sub out is slightly out of phase from the L/R outs. That aside, I drive the high-frequency drivers with the Kenwood's internal amplifier (don't cry yet, I'm gonna replace it when I can afford it).

I chose 25s because I knew I wouldn't have the ability to drive the 15s using a mid-grade HT receiver, and with the original intentions of not having a separate subwoofer, but once I heard the 1000 I knew I had to have it haha.

Down to business: my left tower's amplifier has an audible hum, which neither the other tower nor subwoofer have. (I unplugged the signal cable to make sure that wasn't the source and the hum was still there. I've also tried different power outlets). Also, its turn-on relay is very loud, almost like a "dong" sound. I keep it on auto-on to save power and lower the amount of heat in my room, so I have to listen to this sound quite often and it's making me go crazy. The amplifier also turns itself off much sooner than the other two. Furthermore, I have to turn its volume a good 1/6 of the way up higher than the other tower to match their output levels. Methinks my amplifier needs replacement, but I'm sure a new one costs a good chunk of change. Can it be repaired? Any insight whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
It would be best to remove the bass amplifier and send it to us. Would that be something you would consider?
    Regards, Ken

I wouldn't imagine that it would be more than 20 smackers. Welcome to the forum Jim!

BTW, Polk will bend over backwards for you with their customer service. Your in good hands.

Thank you treitz. I love Polk's customer support. They helped me troubleshoot some extravagant port noise that my PSW1000 was creating :) darn those 30 Hz bass lines

I had an overheating problem with one of the amps. It also stayed on all the time, unless I unplugged the speaker. I contacted Polk Customer Service and they allowed me to put a deposit down for the cost of a replacement amp, which they then sent to me with a pre-paid return call tag to send the defective one back. No down time waiting on a replacement. New amp works like a charm. Polk was awesome.

Unless it's against forum rules, may I ask about how much that replacement totalled in USD?

You would have to ask customer service their current charges. Amp goes for about $149.00 their cost at that time.

Well if it's around that, it's not as bad as I thought it might be.

    Kenny,

Where do I need to send it bud? Shoot me an address and any inside-the-enclosure precautions I might need to take (e.g. wiring to the driver, etc.) when removing the amplifier. I'll get it headed your way as soon as I can.

    Hello,
You would package the amplifier and send it to: Polk Audio, 2550 Britannia Blvd., Suite A, San Diego, CA. 92154. Please include a short note giving us your name, address, daytime telephone number and a copy of your sales receipt.
To take out the amplifier you would:
1). unplug the AC power cord and remove the screws that go around the circumference of the amplifier's input plate.
2). the complete amplifier will come away from the cabinet attached to the other side of the input plate. There should be two wires leading from the amplifier to the 10" woofer, which easily disconnect from the woofer's terminals.
That should complete removing the amplifier, just wrap it carefully and send it to us by US Mail Priorty, UPS or FedEx and insure it for $360.00.
    Regards, Ken

IF THE AMP IS UNDER WARRANTY,

It appears Ken that you are not going to afford this guy the same favor that I was given. Seem like your customer service is slipping. The amp is NOT worth $360.00, cost being around $149.00. Let the guy deposit an amp AT COST. You "POLK" send him the replacement amp at YOUR expence, and have a return call tag in the box. Only seems fair to me.
Also the woofer has to be removed first because the wires inside the speaker are TOO SHORT to allow removal of the amp first. Jim you"ll have trouble if you try to remove the amp first. You also have to disconnect the wires leading to the mid/high speakers. Lets get it right Ken

If you have something to text, text it. 10 Post means nothing to me, I don't care if you have more. If someone's been given wrong information, then I am going to speak up. If you don't like it don't read my post.

I may be new here, but I still know from being on other forums that it's usually best to settle matters such as this somewhere else, as it has nothing to do with the topic anymore. Someone with 10 or 20 posts may be brilliant, or right, or they could be wrong.

P.S. - I've dealt with Polk's Customer Service before Fatwalnut, and they're nothing shy of phenomenal. Let's just all agree to get along and move on. End of discussion.

    Hello,
The $360.00 value was for the shipping insurance amount, which was intended to give the owner and idea of what to insure it for. If you find there is insufficient spare connecting wire length to allow them to be removed then the woofer could be removed first, but try doing it with the woofer in place first.

An apology needs to go out to Jim, Kenneth, Treitz3, Mr. M-500t, Dorokusai and anyone else that I have offended. I have no excuse for my rude behavior. I let something that was bothering me spill over into this forum and I should not have done that. Yes I got pawned Dorokusai and I deserve it. Sorry once again guys, I have learned my place and it won't happen again.
