I-Sonic ES2 Questions

As an emerging audiophile, recently picked up an I-Sonic ES2. When I plug my iPod (16gb iPhone) into the attached dock, if the volume is at or above half on the system, you can sometimes hear a mild hiss on songs when the song dies down a little (aka at the beginning of a song before the music picks up, at the end, etc). I have a pair of Shure SE420's and when plugged into the ES2 via the headphone jack, the same hiss can be heard. When plugged directly into the iPhone, at times, the same mild hiss can be heard, but not quite as loud and not always present. I use the term hiss to describe it, but it sounds just like a consistent "shhhhhhh".
Is this just normal behavior due to a poorly ripped song or is it perhaps a problem with the unit?
ETA: After playing around with it a little, I've found the best way to reproduce the problem. If you switch the unit to "iPod" or "Aux In" with or without anything plugged in, and turn the volume all of the way up, you can hear a rather loud "shhhh" sound.

Anyone have an ES2 that they could switch on iPod or Aux, turn the volume up all the way, and see if they get that hiss sound?

The sound you are hearing is normal and your unit is not defective. The I-Sonic amplifies the signal from the iPod or other device and any noise that exists on those connections will also be amplified. Please make sure you are using your universal well adapter for you iPod as having the iPod securely seated in the dock can insure the best connection.-Eric

Noise floor in any electrical audio unit isa fact of life and perfectly normal. It's when the noise disturbs the music when it is abnormal. Any audio component will have a little hiss when even just on Listen to the tweeter up close of your main stereo when the unit is on and there is no music playing. You will hear a little hiss unless the system has a built in mute at no signal input. Is my lack of reception of any HD stations a malfunction of my radio , my geographical area or my misundefrstanding of how to use the radio? When I press the seek button twice to get HD seek and I push the arrow to get the stations seeking in either direction I get no HD reception with AM or FM and I'm concerned but the radio sounds awesome with regular AM/FM stations as well as ipod dock but the ipod dock is a little fussy. It requires coaxing which I am hoping with use will become a non issue but the no HD reception has me concerned. I promise not to post this question again elswhere.

Since were complaining I find thjat with a pair of Grado headphones plugged in at the headphone jack by the ipod dock I notice it doesn't go very loud at al and i must crankl the volume way up high just to get a pretty low level of sound. Is this normal with the i-sonic? Is there an adjustment for the gain on headphones out? Eric, I noted a website which stated which HD stations were where in the united States so I looked up the closest American city to me to notice that in Bellingham and other parts of Washington there is only one HD station in these cities so that made me know that my unit is fine except the headphone jack is not the best.It is to the point of perhaps faulty in my unit or maybe there is a gain setting like for the AUX IN. Please let me know. This is one fine sounding radio!!
