Whats up all,
I just had a experience that I can't even talk about as I'm blown away. But I want to take a moment and ask a question.

Think HDMI cables and different qualities. I wanna know why a HDMI cable would be rated the ability to support 120hz refresh rate and another one rated to only do 60hz refresh rate? I'm not going to tell you the brands or anything else but I would like to know what seperates the 2 cables in question?

I'd also like to know where one would find such deep info on HDMI cable where they know how one cable can support 120hz Refresh rate and another one only 60hz refresh rate.

Talk to me guys,

Dan:confused::confused::confused:

    Generally, the cable with the larger guage wire should have more bandwidth, and I believe 120hz requires more bandwidth than 60hz, just as 1080p requires more bandwidth than 720p. Not usually an issue until you get into cables longer than 15ft.

    Right now, there are no TV's I am aware of that accept a 120hz signal, only 24 and 60. Although there are TV's that display (refresh?) at 120 hz, so it's really a moot point.

    Dan, if you're speaking of a cable to use with the relatively new TV displays that can operate at 120Hz to help smooth out fast motion, then the cable doesn't have to "support" 120Hz. The reason is that the display itself internally adds an additional frame or a black frame to the received 60Hz material and the cable has nothing to do with it. This point is discussed briefly by DataPro and touched upon by Blue Jeans cable in just one of several informative HDMI cable articles they have.

    HDMI is pure digital and 120Hz refresh rate is a term that applies in TV specs...as long as the length is reasonable, you should have no difference in picture quality. thicker HDMI cable is harder to bend so in tight spaces you should not use thick ones...besides average eyes can't tell the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz...heck, even guys at CNET couldn't tell...

    If you read a new Monstercable box, they now put on there a support of refresh rates. Only there top line cable M1000 can support 120hz refresh rate. If you buy a lower end cable , you will only support up to 60hz refresh rate.

    This spec is bull on a cable. It meaningless. Hdmi cables no matter where you buy them if the cable is under 15 feet and properly built to HDMI spec, you will have no difference in performance. I also confirmed this with a couple different cable company technicians.

    The reason I posted this is the fact I went to a local(leaving name out) and talked to a salesman about HDMI. He basically read the front of the boxes and told me if I was going to buy a 120hz refresh rate LCD, then the only HDMI cable that would work is the M1000 120hz refresh rate support monstercable. I felt my knowledge slipping out my ear. Once I realized that this info was printed on the box, I felt the need to research this info which I didn't know exsisted.

    Why Monstercable is printing this on the front of there cable boxes must be a way of saying "if you are going to buy a high end tv , then buy a high end cable". Ok If that where the case, I almost could agree. If we where talking about component , yeah I perfer to have the highest quality cable at any length but HDMI cables as well as other digital cables under a certain length I don't.

    You know todays terms , Tv's and everything gooing on in the field is confusing enough, even I stumble on it and I work in the field. The last few years have been a very tuff ride. Now I picture a customer walking in to these places and trying to learn more about there purchase and getting such bad info makes me sick.

    I plan on calling monstercable and revieling why they actually put this on there product boxes. With all the courts Monstercable have been involved with the last few years , I'm just not seeing any logic in placing false Info on there wire boxes.

    Good luck getting an answer; at least one that's not a lot of marketing hype, IMO.

    And to think, I actually thought of M**ster as an "upgrade" (hangs head in shame).

    Still use some of their stuff ( higher-end component video cable I just can't bring myself to throw away), but I'm gradually replacing their cables. Hey, even earthworms can learn. :p
    So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?
