My best CD purchases so far this year have been:

The Loved Ones - Build And Burn: A great rock album with a bit of Americana thrown in for good measure.

No Use For A Name - The Feel Good Record Of The Year: In my opinion, the best album they've ever done. A nice evolution from their old punk sound.

Punch Brothers - Punch: Nickel Creek's Chris Thile and friends playing some amazing bluegrass with a little jazz/classical vibe thrown into the mix. The album was basically mic'd and recorded with everyone in the room, giving the mix a very "you are there" feel. My only complaint is that Thile's vocals are slightly more in the right speaker than centered, but it's a minor niggle compared to the musical excellence you'll hear on this disc.

I can't believe people still purchase CDs. No offense but why would anyone spend 10-20$ on a CD when one can download the good songs of the internet using ITunes or similar.

For the same reason people are still buying vinyl, they sound better than compressed music.

hmmm, lets see... i just had my 500 gig hard drive die on me.. what if I had had all my music files on there and I couldn't recover them? Do you think I would be pissed losing all that download money? Uhhhh yeah!

CD's last a lot longer. i rip it to a MP3 file, then I still got the CD should my hard drive die again.. no paying for it again. capiche!

    agreed. IMNSHO, itunes sux.

i find i almost cant even listen to mp3s anymore, especially the low bitrate ones that seem to permeate a lot of ifolk's icollections. too much weird crap up top.

as far as $20 on a disc.... nope, not me. well, maybe on a rare occasion. if you do a little homework you will find that you can buy almost any cd for half of that, and lots for less than that. then, there is the used market.

i do find it interesting (and a little unsettling) that cds have basically stayed at the same retail price since they were created  but i digress.

then again, the last $30 i spent on new music was on *new* vinyl, so there you go. i am lucky to have a reasonably decent record store within blocks of the 'crib.

    Hello,
I have a 250 gig external hard drive with over 7000 songs but as a back up, 2 other buddies came over and copied them to their hard drives so I have 2 back ups in case mine crashes. As for CD's, check out http://www.yourmusic.com/enroll/browse/ all CD's are $6.99 with free shipping. And I must be old too, don't recognize many of those groups.

I love Jason. Why, I may even make love to him now that he's single again.

But man, I don't get your taste in muzak.

"Neon Bible" made me want to hit myself in the crotch. I had to beat kittens in response to Interpol's latest pile. Vampire Weekend was OK - although after listening to a few tracks - I felt the urge to stab my eardrums with a set of chopsticks. Instead however, I opted to throw the disc under the lawnmower.

I hopes this doesn't change what we've got bay-be. But I felt it better to be direct and honest. btw: you can have your chopsticks back.

Have you heard Mike Patton's other side project - Fantomas?
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Which one of his side projects? ;)

Guy has one of the biggest "rap sheets" i've ever seen from a musician.

I dont' have any Fantomas, but i'll check it out, it's been in the back of my head for awhile now. I'm a big fan of DEP, so i think this should go well with my tastes. :)

Though its seven or eight months old, I just got Radiohead In Rainbows.

I know that Radiohead fans will have strong opinions about the pecking order of their CDs because, unlike Coldplay, each of their albums has such a distinct sound (OK, well maybe the new Coldplay sounds different from the previous three). Anyway, having spun it several times now, I think that In Rainbows is their best work since OK Computer, which I still regard as their finest album to date.

The other two albums that continue to astound me recently also date from 2006/07: Cat Power The Greatest and Iron & Wine The Shepherds Dog. I've been listening to each for several months now and am still enjoying them more and more.

Moody blues - To our children's children's children

Found it at the thrift store $2 but everything in the store was 1/2 price that day. I was out the door and almost to my car and decided to go back and get it. I had trouble finding it again since they have a ton of cd's because no one wants to pay $2 for a used cd. This one was like new with no scratches. I've been listening to it continuously now for a couple of weeks in the car.

Nice, I dig it! The Greatest on vinyl sounds damn good. Listening to In Rainbows as I type and fuking love it. "I don't wanna be your friend, I just wanna be your lover." Thom Yorke sounding like Prince...dig it. About time that dude cheers up a bit.

And perhaps vice-versa....Now that you mention it, I have a 7-minute clip (not quite the full song) of Prince covering Radiohead's "Creep" at the Coachella concert this April. Its certainly not a professional recording (some background audience noise is present), but its good enough and there is this absolutely AMAZING falsetto that Prince projects in the middle of his rendition of the song, not to mention some very nifty guitar work (lots of folks tend to forget how **** talented that guy is with a guitar). Anyway, if you (or anyone else) wants the live clip, just send me your e-mail via PM and I can send it to you as an attachment.

I think you and I have discussed the merits of Spoon before. Just recently I picked up tickets to see Spoon open for Beck at the Hollywood Bowl in late September. Can't wait...I'm hoping both live up to my expectations as live artists. Its rare that I'll muster up the energy to go see a concert among the crowds these days, but aside from these two bands I think Prince would be at the top of the list.

I just bought my first 4/5 Cowboy Junkies CDs between 2 yardsales today. I thought I read about them here in the forum. I'm sure I did. Thanks guys.

I think I'm going to like them.

I heard a little of one in my car and went back to buy the other two after sampleing three songs.

I've got The Trinity Sessions I think.(there's some out in my man cave )

(CDs below are in my house now.)

    Pale sun, Crescent moon

    Studio

    Black eyed Man

    Also todays' finds,

    Morfine .....like swimming

    Dianna Krall.....The Look of Love.

Also a uh-hum.....Boy George collection of 20 discs and stuff. I hope there's some great tracks of music and other songs in them somewhere. A few discs are colaborations with other artists and music by David Bowie.;)

I think I found some nice CDs today..:D
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
