I had been looking at the Pioneer VSX 1017 and the Yamaha v861.
Today I stumbled across an open box VSX 1017 at BB ( $85.00+tax and had to buy a new remote ) and bought it.
Is it a good reciever ?

That's a great price for that piece. I would have bought it at that price even though I don't need another AVR.
I had a couple of Pio's and they were good for the money.
Pioneer receivers generally get decent reviews.

It's a fantastic receiver for the price but the HDMI is video only. You cannot run audio in on the HDMI cable from a blu-ray or PS3 etc. Other than that the unit gets great reviews and sounds really good.SDA-1C (full mods)

That receiver shares many of the same features and specs as my slightly older Elite but for waaaaaay less money. Glad you are happy.SDA-1C (full mods)
