monitor 10b

Hi I have apair of monitor 10b's and have had them for about 17 years give or take I was wondering if there are any upgrades i should make to the crossover electronics? I am not having any problems but I remember some saying somthing about changing
the capacitors??would I gain anything? what is the life of speakers in general?I find I love the sound I get from these.
I also have rt7's for my rear and a csi400. thanks.:)

    I replaced the capacitors and resistors in my 10bs several months ago. I think it cost me less than 100.00 for both, including the soldering stuff I had to buy. I used all polypropylene caps and so it cost a bit more. I probably could have substituted or omitted to some degree, but I figured if I was gonna do it, I might as well go all out. The caps were much larger than the originals and it took a bit of creative placement and wiring, but it all worked out in the end. To me, it made a noticeable difference, although yopu really can't do a good a/b comp.

    Polk customer service can send the schematic to you for the asking and you can get the parts from madisound.com . If you are at all handy with a soldering iron, it's not that hard. Good luck!!

    Then don't worry about them and don't muck around with the crossover. When.. IF they ever fail or have a problem, then get them fixed. But don't mess with perfection. My 7Cs are still going strong after 14 years.

    I have the 10Bs and have been interested in upgrading the crossover components but haven't. I probably never will. I'm lazy. I've also read that changing some components from Mylar to P'p' and such should be measured as the given ratings aren't necessarily the same across the board.

    Monitor 10Bs love:
    Stands
    Approximately 7' separation and 1&1/2' from back wall
    A 'very slight' toe-in
    Thick wire
    Current - this and the corresponding wattage is very important. I thought I was done with my 10Bs when I blew a mid/woofer with a 110 w/ch amp while comparing to a 35 watt speaker. At the time I thought the 35 watt spkr sounded better (especially after the Polk blew). I have since bought a receiver with better current capabilities and they now TROUNCE the 35 watt pair which also sound better.

    I picked up some 10b speakers that were in pretty rough shape and I am trying to get them working. Can anyone tell me why the passive radiators are not working?

    The passive radiators move in and out based on the mid-drivers working.

    Is there any sound coming out of the mid drivers?
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
    Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
    Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)

    I have run my 10Bs for 24 years. They have played long and hard--I mean hard. I am sure tweaking would help the sound, but I am so used to how they sound, I really don't like the idea of tinkering. I still get great detail and plenty of bass.
