Thread prefixes & other forum features

There are a bunch of new features with vBulletin 3.7 and I wanted to get some feedback about "thread prefixes."

I think it's a useful feature and can help to separate posts at a glance. I have the ability to make different sets of prefixes available to different forums. Also I can bold them, color them, do whatever to make them stand out a little.

Here are some ideas that come to mind, but please add to the list:

<b>Flea Market</b>
[For Sale]
[Wanted]
...

<b>Clubhouse</b>
[News]
[Karma]
...

<b>Technical</b>
[Help Needed]
[Advice] or [FYI]
[Review]
....

<b>Movies & Games</b>
[Review]
....

You get the idea. This could really be cool if implemented right, so let me hear your thoughts.

Thanks,
~Justin

Way to go Justin. I have been thinking about some sort of computer forum. I have been on a quest for a sound card, and a little advice in that field. Plus the search feature hasn't been working well for me.
    Ben

    Edit
Maybe work MPS/flac players into it. Just an idea for more modern formats.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

    Justin,

Will it require every thread to have one or will be up to the original poster?

    Justin,

Will it require every thread to have one or will be up to the original poster?

It will be up to the original poster. The default selection will be "none." I think if every post had a prefix it would find of defeat the purpose.

I think it would be pretty cool since some people have a hard time coming up with thread titles as it is.....

The for sale/wanted ones are useless, since there are individual forums for that but the others might be useful especially in high traffic araes.

How about a "completed sale" section for the flea market?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

This is a great idea, nothing more frustrating then openining a post for something only to find out it's already sold.

Rebuilding the search index, search will still work.

But the "tags" I might disable because it appears people aren't really taking it seriously. It's another way to organzie information that I think could be useful, but we will see.

While I saw the tags used in some of the threads, and agree that they weren't being used quite as intended, I think it would be nice to leave the tag search option available. Hopefully it will be seen as a useful addition to the search function and will be used as such.

That's why I couldn't find you! I was only searching for the **** Doro.

Seriously though, I do like the idea of a completed sale section.

Something you will not need, seeing as how most things you sell are gone two minutes after you hit the "submit" button :D.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

How do you change the status prefix from "for sale" to "SOLD". Is that the right issue? What is the point of it?

Give the tags some time. Too bad everyone can see them. I would love to use my own tags. Sort of a virtual bookmark, but only the user who left the tag can see it and edit it, etc. Good for that user but bad for the rest of the users trying to search for info.

Also, so far the For Sale prefixes in the For Sale section of the FM seem utterly redundant. If it's not for sale it should be in the FS section of the FM. Just something I noticed, it's distracting to see a long row of green "For Sale" prefixes.

The prefixes are a great idea for other sections that have a variety of subjects. Just seems redundant in the WTB and FS threads.

Change is sometimes distracting. I wish they were a pretty pink or chartruese.

They're convenient for those who use the Active Topics feature.

Justin, please give the Tags a while to work. Using the tags will make searches SO much easier when looking up stuff. I understand if it is continued to be abused, it'll be axed.

A single keyword is one heck of a lot easier to look up than a "phrase" or a quote that as the months/years go by, we may not remember. Looking up a keyword on a specific key topic may help the searches tremendously.

Food for thought. Your the boss. ;)

Justin, the tags are a great feature and should be kept.

The way they are being used by some just shows that this forum is way too permisive. I am sure there's a way for you to see who created the tags. If inappropriate, just delete them and send a warning, temporaly ban, etc.
(I was the first to use them in an inappropriate way.....but I was drunk at the time and later cleared them :o).

Oh, and an anti troll rule should also be implemented.

What exactly would be the forum name, and what would be the description? Would this go under "Special Interests?"

It's called the 2ch forum, and it already exists.

Make an analog section, then you will of course have to make a digital too. I'm all for discussing a board re-structure, but just simply adding forums isn't the answer, if anything we probably need less.
