Distortion!!

In desparate need of help:
I'm a newbie @ home theatre systems. I'm 99% certain my connections (all monster cable) are correct.
I'm running:
Denon AVR-1803 receiver w/optical to my DVD
Polk Tower fronts (rt600s)
Cerwin-Vega Center (E-75C)
Polk sub (250)
Polk bookshelf surrounds (rti28s).
Problem is this: Everything sounds great except that I'm getting distortion from the 28s when I play DVD's. As everything is new (or almost new), I'm at a loss!
Anyone have any suggestions??

Are the speakers set to large or small?
-
the 600s are set to LARGE, the 28s are set to SMALL.
-
Anyone???
-
I am running the same reciver w/RT35I rear surrounds - if the gain for the rear is set to max +12 then there is a small amount of noise present from the rear surrounds. Check your settings.
-
How loud you running them suckers?Damn you all, damn you all to hell.......
I promised myself
No more speakers. None. Nada. And then you posted this!!!!
Damn you all! - ATC -
The 28's are plugged into the rear surround channel right? What level are they set at on the receiver? +1? +4? Does it happen with all movies? All DSP modes (DTS/DD/Etc)?
-
Yes, it happens in all modes, and I've gone as far as setting them as low as -3.
-
Ok well I'm stumped. What do you mean by distortion?
-
There's a buzzing in the speaker. Sometimes a crackling. Rarely (almost never) crystal clear sound. Now
I'm not an audiophile, so I don't have through the moon expectations, but I know something isn't right here.
Now I just took the speakers and ran them as the fronts and still have the distortion. Should I assume that
SOMEHOW I got a bum pair of speakers??? -

I just tried them as the only speakers on my old sony receiver (not THAT old--a 1999 model), and still
have this buzzing and clipping--mostly in the lower frequencies. -
Take 'em back and get a new set.
-
Ugh--was really hoping to avoid that but I think you guys are right. Thanks for everyone's time and advice.
-
sound like they are blown to me
-
Alright--so I returned them no problem. Got the new speakers hom and they sound amazing! Thanks everyone for their help!
