Speaker crackle

Thought I'd run this by you guys.
When my preamp is in two channel or "stereo mode" I notice a sight crackle coming out of one of my surrounds when it's supposed to be silent. It's not all that noticeable unless your ear is to it...but more noticeable at higher vols.
The same speaker sounds flawless in modes where the surrounds are being used. Is this a problem with my receiver leaking some signal to it? I did just hook up an amp, but it may have been doing that prior...I don't know. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Crackling is common in old volume knobs.
Is this equipment pure digital or are there knobs you can turn back and forth to see if the crackling is from one of them? -
The problem appears to be with amp. The surrounds are crackling in stereo mode even when unplugged from the preouts the mains and center still hooked up. Furthermore, I hooked things up w/o the amp and no crackle in stereo mode.
There are level knobs on the amp. It's interesting you mention that the knobs can cause this issue. I initially had them all the way up. Then after hooking everything back up....a surround was crackling not only in stereo mode, but any mode. Then I noticed the level knob was down on that particular channel. It would crackle as I adjusted it, until I got it all the way up.
No problems in any mode other than "stereo" as long as the level adjustments are up. -
Another thing...
Briefly hearing my setup again without the amp confirmed the huge improvement it makes. Doing that alone made it sound like something was wrong. -
Caig Deoxit is your friend. Go to Rat Shack [Radio Shack] and pick up Caig Deoxit and Deoxit Gold. Should be around 15 smackers. When you have that in hand, get back with us.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

15 smackers....I'm game. Sure would beat a tech charge or having pull the bananas everytime I want 2 channel.

No. I was skeptical, but curious to try....before I sent it back. More info than you bargained for, but I vent.
Was a B&K AV5000 the seller said was 105wx5. This was supported by anything I've ever read online including a spec sheet for older models put out by B&K. I found out it was 100wx3+60wx 2. The B&K tech said they only made a few of these before going to the 105w. Seller admitted he just grabbed the specs of the web.
It became a smaller than advertised amp that still had a crackle.... so I shipped it back.
Spent my refund (which better be forthcoming) preordering a Csi5 from Onecall and I'm still keeping my eye out for a good 5 channel amp. I'll will be much more selective next time.
