Don't knock it 'till ya' try it. Look man, he is offering you a chance to hear it for yourself. Instead of declaring BS, get up off your duff and check it out. You may actually learn something and it won't cost you $2,100.00 to find out!

PS, I had experience with a $210.00 PC. ;)

Generalizations like "No an idiot would pay $2100 for a power cable" are usually thrown around by people who don't know what they're talking about, but as you put it - what do you know you're just a polkster...

Lashing out at something because you don't understand it is a typicaly sign of acute narrow-minded(ness).

You also obviously lack what most of us refer to as perspective. I won't spell that one out for ya, but keep in mind that to some people $2100 is not an obscene amount of money to spend on even a small upgrade, and yet to other the $3 that my coworker spends at Starbucks every day is an obscene amount of money.

I wouldn't buy a $2100 power cable in my current situation because audio funds are limited and I choose to use mine in areas that yeild a more significant impact. But calling someone retarded or an idiot because they have that kind of money to throw around is...well, retarded and idiotic...

I don't understand, greg it looks like you did not read the post, I will copy it so you can read it again:

"would anyone in the dfw area like to listen to $2100 power cord to hear for yourself if there is a difference?"

All I see is one polkie offering to let others listen to see if they hear a difference. No where is there a offer to sell a cable, so why are you saying only an idiot would buy the cable? The OP isn't buying the cable or offering it for sale.

I wasnt reffering to any club member as an idiot or retarded I was reffering to a company asking $2100 for a power cable is retarded, I dont think the difference in sound would justify the cost. my reference to retarded was for the price of the cable not any club member, I have respect for every member in here.:)

Why is the price retarded? Have you listened to it to form an educated opinion? Is it retarded for a company to ask $100,000.00 + for a hotrod Corvette? I mean it can only go a little quicker than a stock version.

You see, as one moves up the ladder it's all about small improvements. They are improvements none the less.

Bottom line, don't judge it if you haven't experienced it.

Isn't it amazing how little it takes for these threads to go astray.

Marv is just opening his door for any one interested in hearing a $2100 PC. No more, no less. I for one would love the opportunity to hear for myself & to come to my own conclusions.

No one asked any one's thought's on the price!! It might seem high to some, but on the other hand, it might be in line with another's wallet. Who's to say.

I eagerly await your review marv.

I buy into the whole IC and speaker cable theory that there is a difference in cables, to a point that is. Low current high frequency signals would be suceptable to high resistance or interference from poor sheilding., but will someone please explain how a 3' piece of high priced copper wire between your outlet and unit improve sound quality? How bout the miles of standard copper wire from the power plant to your house and standard wiring from your panelboard to outlet? Don't you think that would have more impact on the current coming in than the last stinking 3'? I just don't get the whole power cable thing. What can be affected in 110v 15 amp current by 3' of cable?

forgive me , the cables are around $1200, the connectors alone are in the $900 range:eek: my budget (wife) only allows me to sneak into the $200 range;). the distributor told me he thinks they are now $2300. a guy emailed me that he had 3 for sale. he wanted $750 ea. even at this greatly reduced price they are out of my price range, but only if i had the extra cash:D

Just for the record. No company is asking 2100 dollars for a PC. This is not a company direct sale price. The manufacturer has a distributor, who sets up a dealer network that sell them to individuals. This is the usual way that business is set up in this industry. There are several manufacturer direct companies that sell various types of gear. If these goods for sale were to have distributors and dealers the prices would be astronomically greater as well.

I know how much work this particular cord is to make and what the approximate cost for it is. The company is not making nearly as much as you probably think. This cord is only 6 feet long, but its construction actually uses 126 feet of wire and those very expensive Acrolink carbon fiber ends. It is also quite labor intensive. Go look up the cost of the Acrolink carbon fibre plug and IEC.

I think you also have to look at in perspective. This cord wouldn't be marketed for Polk speaker users (nothing derogatory intended). There are those that have 20k to 100's of K systems that may be interested in this cord.

There are many people on this forum that spend 100 dollars on a cord. There are people that would think that you are stupid for doing that. You could probably go find one for 5 bucks......it's all perspective. What you have to ask is how does this cord compare to other 2K cords out there, or 4K, or 10K? ....yes they do exist.

Anyway, this is a great offer by Marvin. He is probably apprehensive about the whole thing himself and wants other's opinions on things (although I shouldn't be speaking for him). It is also a great reason to get together and have some fun. I wish I was in the area sounds like fun.

    Mike

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not denigrating anyone for buying high priced cables, and the offer to come listen for yourself to a really high quality cable is very generous and seldom heard. If I was closer, I'd come listen for myself. I was just asking for someone with more electrical knowledge than myself to explain how a power cable could make a difference. Now I could see it making a difference if it ran all the way from the generator to the unit, but it seems to me the power is only as good as the weakest link in the circuit. If you have a really fancy power conditioner, yeah, but for those of us that just plug into a surge protector I can't see the benefit.

Honestly, I think that "higher end" cords actually make more of a difference if you do not have a power conditioner than if you do.

you know in this hobby for small increases in performance there is a large increase in price and yes it is hard for me to justify some of the prices but i find enjoyment in finding things in my price range that compete with or surpass the high dollar stuff.
there are $300+ GLASSES of wine you can buy, are they better than a $20 bottle of wine? of course i'll never find out as i'm a > $10 bottle kind of guy:)

For $2K+ I'd like to see much better build quality aesthetic and a more rigorous devotion to technology. A Teflon dielectric is ordinary even in the $200-300 price level; where the heck are the ideal vacuum dielectric cables at these stratospheric prices? Hell, even an air tube would be better - and I suppose it those could be Teflon air tubes, but I really don't think so based on the physical size and the written description.

It's easier for me to swallow the Audioquest offerings at those prices (looks great, teflon air tubes, known good quality metals, battery bias system), but even there it's a much lower priority in my system than anything else...

here is what a guy sent me on the construction of the windigo, what would audioquest charge if they had to do this to each of their cables?

"Each one of those posts is comprised of 7 wires that he hand cleans,
puts each one into its own sleeve, then puts 7 of them in each jacket
and brades them.....one cord at a time. A 6 foot PC requires 126 feet
of wire. That would drive me crazy. He recommends them for high power

    amps."

Hand-built stuff isn't always better, or even equally good. Why would hand-pulled cable be better than machine pulled? Do the human skin oils contribute something extraordinary here? Is it too much too expect these companies to provide some halfway-sound technical reasoning & value justification for the design, before handing over the license to print money at $2K a cable?
