There aren't that many actors who could pull off that role. McConaughey certainly isn't one of them, he is way too boyish and you need a man for it.

Precisely Sami! Tom Selleck was all grown up & filled out when he took that role. having some pimply 20something trying to pull off that kind of role will just NOT work!

yeah, i wouldn't like it if McCanaughey got the part either. I think maybe someone like Russell Crowe would be ok though. or just have Tom Selleck himself play the part.

No more remakes of 70-80's tv, PLEASE! Although Magnum wasn't a bad show, I am SOOO sick of this ****! It's just sad.

Anyone saw the "TV Land Awards" last night?

"Magnum PI" received an award and Tom Selleck was there to receive it, along with Roger E. Mosley (TC) and Larry Manetti (Rick). John Hillerman (Higgins) wasn't there.

    The presenter? Matthew McConaughey

    Coincident? I think not.

I thought McConaughey did a good job playing Dirk Pitt and he may be able to pull this one off. If he can get a great supporting cast, it might just work out.

I always thought Selleck played Magnum with a carefree, boyish, whimsical attitude.

I think the problem is that we hate to see someone else step into an iconic role such as Magnum. We'd like to have Tom Selleck do the movie, but I think even he'd admit, he's too old to be Magnum. On the other hand, why not have Tom Selleck appear as another character in the movie version? James Garner did it when Mel Gibson took over the title role in the movie version of "Maverick".

I saw Matthew McConaughey on "The Tonight Show" last night and I think he'll do ok in the role of Magnum.

Matthew is well known but does not fit the Magnum personna. Hugh Jackman, love him but his character is too wired for the part. Tom Selleck had that "Something" that brought Magnum to life and made him real for us. The actor that could pull that off and would be perfect for the role is Dan Payne. He has the look, ability and the quality to bring Magnum back to life

Tom Selleck for sure, They could set it 20-25 years later from where the TV show left off. Remember he went back in the navy at the end of the TV show maybe make him head of navel intel. Anyway I can't see anybody else doing it. I know Selleck has talked about doing this for years with Tom Clancy maybe doing the script.

Selleck had that prankster side and a bit of devil may care attitude but when Magnum got mad or things got serious, you knew he wouldn't hesitate to shove a 1911 in the bad guys mouth. There's a serious side to him. McConnaughey's got the prankster side down but lacks just a bit of Dirty Harry. Jackman's a bit too stiff. Still, I'm rooting for McConnaughey.

Whoever they select, they also need to make sure the Higgins character is filled correctly. Part of what made Magnum fun to watch was the Magnum vs Higgins relationship. Higgins brought out Magnum's prankster side.

Tonight's "The Insider" mentioned "Magnum PI" may be heading to the big screen with Tom Selleck in the title role....and Selleck said he would do it. But that was it.
