I've seen some threads about using a USB connector for a remote, but you can't power the PS3 on/off. The solution? IR to bluetooth converter:

He is out of Canada, and although it is nice piece, it is just a hobby right now and he is having a hard time keeping the pace with production. You can do a search at www.remotecentral.com if you want to know more about it.

I hope he decides to sell his idea to a company that can mass produce them.

Not yet, they were out when I contacted. So I have to keep checking back.
I should've listened way back in 2008, they told me I'd go broke... they were right

yeah, i'd say it's definately worth the price of admission. don't quite know why sony didn't just market one of these themselves as an alternative to the bt blu-ray remote they offer. the market is out there, that is for certain.
