The LSi15 and the LSi9 both feature power port and ARC port technology.

The LSi9's power port is on the back.

The LSi15 is on the bottom - doubling as a base.

Just wanted to correct the previous statement...

the LSi15 MTM section is not connected to the lower section (side firing woofer) and sharing the ARC port is it?

Please tell me you didn't compare 9s with 15s with totally different positions? You could compare two sets of 9s and they will sound vastly different when one set is a foot higher then the other and against the side walls. Location location location.

My thoughts too, plus, try and move that gear off the carpet, static ya know.Go to any home depot and get some patio blocks to put underneath.Granite would look better but for the 5 bucks a patio block would cost, you can't go wrong.Toe in those 15's too and move forward about a foot.

    So which one sounds better?

And BTW, I like where your 9's are sitting. I have mine sitting on two fold up chairs as well (just a temporary solution until I get around to assemble my speaker stands). Great minds think alike.:D

i like the LSi9 better - they got a "fuller" sound to them

they play 80Hz and up when i compared the 9 and the 15. when the conquest sub comes next week, the sub will play 60Hz and below and LSi9 will handle the 60Hz upwards

That "fuller" sound must be that midbass hump everyone has been talking about.

If I remember correctly, people have been saying that in order to boost the perception of more bass from bookshelf speakers, Polk added a midbass hump to the 9's, to make them sound like they are giving out a ton of bass.

The 15's don't have this hump, because the 15's have that dedicated 8" woofer to deal with the midbass and bass.

    that must be it then

when i do room calibration with the sms-1 next week, i'll remember to take a on-screen shot of whats going on in the mid-bass region

Get taller chair-stands (barstools), and pull them out 4 feet from the rear, and 5 feet from either wall. Sit back and enjoy. Keep the 15's for HT.

What kind of speaker stands did you get?

You need something that is around 30" for those 9's.

I ended up getting the Target MR28 stands from audioadvisor (which I still haven't assembled yet, too lazy...).

Looks nice. Make sure you fill up the stands with sand. The sand has to be dry, otherwise it will cause rust.

Check with the local gun stores. Lead shot is used for reloading shotgun shells.

Static can build up even if your gear isn't directly on the carpet.Being on it though won't help. You may start hearing a fuzzy sound. Some have even toasted some gear from static shock.Lots of anti-static stuff out there. If you are the type to shuffle your feet walking over to the gear, ground yourself on something else first.High humidity plays a role in it also.Wool carpets being the worst for static.

You won't need a ton of bass in that room, if it's well placed.
With a square room, try some odd placements, at odd intervals or you will get uneven in-room response -nulls, modes.

How about this...take a LSi9, use a LSi15 crossover, and build a cabinet made to house a LSi15 woofer front firing. The cabinet could also be used as a stand. Or, use two 8" dvc DB series woofers configured to 4 ohms and place them in a cabinet under the LSi9 for more surface area and less distortion.

I was thinking about doing this too. Did this placement affect imaging in any way?

I also tried plugging the power port at the base but it ended up making the bass way too boomy

Do they have shooting ranges near you? Go to one and ask around if anyone reloads, then find out where they get their stuff. You might have to order it.
