I've had a small room in my house come open, and I was wondering if it would be big enough for a dedicated HT room but like I said its alittle small (13'' x 9' 6''). I wanted to get some idea of the rooms that some of you are using for dedicated HT rooms.

I had my HT in my old house in similar sized room, 13x11. It's not ideal but it works. It's actually much easier to get the sound right. I used the closet for all the electronics and I had the same 135" screen in the room although with much smaller picture.

I am building a room now that is 9.5 x 9.5 with a 7' ceiling. It is really small but I have no other option. Bass traps and treatments on first reflections points seem a must. But, there are also advantages to near field listening positions.

How big could I go with the screen in a room 13' L x 9'6'' W, setting probably about eleven feet away, I was thinking some where between 96'' and 106'' would that be to much?

Eleven feet away and a hundred inch screen seems like it would be ridiculous to me. Go to a store with large TVs, sit or stand 11 feet away, and see what feels right.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Sounds about right! My room is 16x10.6" and it works fine. I sit about 14 feet away from a 120-134" screen depending on what I am watching.

106" screen at 11 feet would be probably fine IMO.

I set about 11' away from a 60'' screen now and even that seems small to me.

I was thinking that since the only source material I would watch on it would be DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray, may be some Hi-Def sports, that I would be fine setting that close, I wouldn't be watching the 6 o'clock news on it or anything like that. :D

Did you feel comfortable watching a picture that size? Did it ever bother you in any way?

My room is 14' wide, 24' deep with 8' ceilings. My first row of seating is at roughly 11' away from a 92" screen. From the first row I think the 92" screen is fine but at the second row, the screen could be larger. Don't get me wrong, with all the lights off a 92" screen is more than plenty from the back row. If I could have gone with a larger screen size, without a doubt I'd have atleast 110" screen. I think in that size room, I would go no larger than 100". Depending on what projector you purchase, make sure you get one with a 2.0 zoom. My Epson being mounted 10' from the screen would have no problem throwing an image on a 100" screen.

Grimster, I think that you may be right, I've been doing some measuring and I think a 92'' screen will fit my room alittle better than the 106''. A 92'' gives me about 1' each side of the screen to place my speakers with.

One more thing, I can't imagine what my SVS will sound like sealed up in a roughly 13 x 10 room instead of practically the whole house like it is now.

The RTT is bigger around 16 X 15, I started with a 62 inch DLP and now I use a 50 inch plasma and its fine, I built a stage of sorts for them to sit in, I thought about a screen but opted for the tv, I am not sorry. I would think with todays picture quality you could use up too a 100 screen if you want but it may be overkill. That SVS may be problem, wont know till you try it out, oh yea, I do like really like the Polk in-walls if that is an option for you.

Unless you have funds for the 1080UB model instead of the 1080, I would suggest Sanyo PLV-Z2000 as they have great rebates on those.

About the SVS, if it can reach reference level in your current room, it won't change other than maybe it will be easier to get rid of peaks and valleys.

I'm using the Epson Home Cinema 1080 with an Elite 92" Fixed Frame Screen and I haven't regreted it one bit. Me personally, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the 3 discussed here, Epson, Panny or the Sanyo.

my room is 30' X 16' with 8' ceilings. My first row of seats is 12' from a 106" screen. The screen is fine for the second row at 16' but I kinda think its maxed at that. I really like the sony vw60 and would recommend it. I've never really auditioned anything else so my recommendation is purely an appreciation for this unit.

My old theater room was 13 x 11. Seating was 8' back otherwise it would have blocked a walking path. My new room is 19 x 18 with seating 16 feet back. A noticeable difference in viewing and surround sound effects. It really depends on how the room is configured and what obstacles keep you from placing things exactly where you want them.

Because of the way the room is laid out I have to make a decision about surround placement and viewing distance, her are my choices.

    1. Set 10'' away from a 92'' screen and have the surround mounted about 2'' above ear level, from what I've read this is the appropriate height for surrounds.

    2. Set 11'' feet away from a 92'' screen, but have the surrounds mounted about 4'' above ear level.

What would the best compromise, set alittle closer to the screen and have the surrounds mounted properly(from what I've read), or set alittle further back and have the surround mounted 4'' above ear level
