Finally got a chance to watch this last night. BD was rented, but even upscaled, it was still a treat. Wow, I really liked this movie. Had me from start to finish. The Coen Bros. deserved the Oscar for this one. Best since Fargo. Loaded with dark black humor, great characters and totally engaging story. There's been some criticism about the end, but it's true to the book, thoughtful, and bears directly on the title. Wifey was disappointed, entertained, but disappointed. I loved it.

4 out of 4 stars.

    We liked it too.

You mentioned "Fargo", one of my all time favorites. Either you get it or you don't. We got it.

Watched it, liked it a lot, didn't love it. I don't think the hitman (forget his name) was really best actor material. Creepy no doubt, but the role was relatively one dimensional and not that complex. Think many actors could have done a great job with that role.

Don't get me wrong, very good movie and highly recommended.

did anyone pick up on the fact that there was no soundtrack during the entire movie? except during credits. most movies today rely heavly on it's soundtrack to help carry a movie, but this movie worked without any kind of soundtrack. rare for a movie to be so bold as to attempt that.

Soundtracks often times help promote a movie.. and in some cases can elevate a movie from being so so to being much better.

That's funny, my wife was pissed-off with the ending too. She was saying "no way! that's it? that's the ending? this movie sucks." LOL

    SPOILER

There will not be a part 2. The movie ended exactly as it should have. The overall point of the movie (and the book) is that sometimes the bad guy does get away from the good guy, if only for a moment. There were a lot of other things thrown in there, like time passing those cops by to the point where they were actually naive. The movie was also unconventional in that it killed off the main character.

If you think about it a while and let it sink in, the ending makes perfect sense. The only difference is that the main character isn't getting out of an ambulance with his wife wrapped up in a blanket hugging his kids after beating the bad guy in an impossible fight.

Yo, wasn't there already a NCFOM thread? I posted in it last week. Its gone now. The mods are really getting aggressive about removing threads. I have no idea what could have been the problem with the other thread.

PS> I loved the movie. The lack of music through the movie really built up suspense in some of those scenes. It forces you to listen closely. The only think I didn't like about the movie was (SPOILER ALERT!) way they ended Llewellyn's storyline off camera. I was hoping for more from that boy.

Can someone clear up a couple of things for me, Just a couple of things I was kinda confused on.

    1. Anton Chigurh worked for the government or DEA or police of some kind right? He was sent to get the money back , and thats how he new that the government gave the Mexican drug guys a receiver for the transmitter in the money right?

    2. It was the Mexican Drug dealers who killed Llewelyn Moss, and not Chigurh right?

Chigure did not work for the government, he was apparently part of the American organized crime ring, but he was a loose cannon. The guy in the office was some sort of crime boss. I would think Chigure as being the "cleanup man", but he was out of control, so they brought in a second cleanup man (Woody's character).

I believe the american crime boss gave a 2nd transmitter to the Mexicans to quell any tensions between the two sides.

Oh, I thought when Carson Wells asked the guy in the office ''to validate his parking ticket'' it meant he was some kind of law enforcement, but what you said makes just as much since.

The Mexicans did kill Moss though, right?

You guys love to predict that every movie is made to have a sequel.

If the Coens make this into a sequel I'll eat my hat. Not a chance.

I agree. None. They made this movie based off a book anways, which seems to be forgotten. I doubt they'd have the rights to turn it into a franchise even if they wanted to.

The Coens have never done a sequel and they will not do one for this movie. There is no need for a sequel. Everything was wrapped up. You are to assume the wife died because she wouldn't play Chirgure's game. Chigure got the money, and he got away. The Sheriff retired because he was too old and simple to deal with the type of criminal that he saw during this movie.

you assume that that's what he was looking for.. maybe he was looking for dog poo on the bottom of his shoes.. or something else. we don't know. we can only assume he killed her. to much left open on that murder. if it even was a killing

Haha....Everybody checks for dog poo going INTO a house ...not leaving...dat **** is dead. The man lived his life on the strictest set of principals, even if he didnt want to kill her...he had to.

Thats just my opinion of course, movies are meant to invoke different thoughts from different people...just like I knew the old **** in Titanic died in her bed on the ship at the end of the movie...my wife still swears she was dreaming :D

Speaking of killing, when he drilled old woody before nonchalantly answering the phone was some of the best comedy I had seen in a long while.

You don't take a classic movie and make Casablanca 2. There will be no sequel from the Coen Bros. and unless Cormac McCarthy sold the rights to the characters, the studio(s) can't touch it. However, stranger things have happened. Hell, there was an American Psycho 2, that had absolutely nothing to do with the original, but the author had sold the rights to the title.
