I'd like to ask this question to the forum.
So how important is it?
When your listening to your system weather movies or music, what is it that you think can be improved and why does it need to be?
I'll leave it at that and ask more after some of you chime in.

    HS-very, but at baby steps
HT-not so. Maybe someday if in a different room.

Also there's something to be said for quantity over quality. An amp in rack is better than an amp on lay-away.

What is HS? By quantity over quality, it sound like you're saying the more the better.....that wouldn't really apply if you have, say, a bunch of Sony's layin around, does it? :p

It's important enough to me that I try to listen to some music every day. I have upgraded my sub, center, rear speakers, and reciever over the years, and moved the replaced pieces to the kids HT in the downstairs recroom. Sure, I'd love a full blown set of LSi's, but I've learned not to be obsesssed with the upgrade bug, TWF and all. I enjoy listening to what I have assembled over the years and am currently very happy with it.

HS, as in Home Stereo, is where it's at.

My HT, will probably not fundamentally change for a long time. I'm happy with 5.1 so other than MAYBE a new sub at some point, I don't forsee it changing drastically.

HS, is a different story. There are some different things that I'd like to do, some inexpensive, some very expensive.

However, I'm not consumed by what m rig(s) don't do or lack. I'm content at whatever point I'm at. I think that there are folks who dwell way too much on what is lacking in their system as opposed to enjoying what they do have. You know, glass is half empty vice half full. I'm an optimist so, while I realize I've got a long way to go, I'm also happy where I'm at. That's why when some people (won't mention any names) rip on my rig, it doesn't bother me in the least.

I think the biggest improvement I could make right now is moving.
Living in a apartment places restrictions/ limitations on how, when, and where I can listen to my system. Space is a problem with speaker placement. Can't get up at 2 am and crank her up. Plus I think all speakers benifit from a little power being pushed through them, you know just enough to get the air moving not a wind storm, more like a gentle breeze. The best improvement for me would be getting my own house. Getting up at 3 am and being able to watch "battle of the clones" as loud as I want too.

Brett-No Sony amps in this house.

Every make and model of each manufacturer has their own characteristic sound. Sometimes it's just nice to move things around and "get a little strange". Full-rangers on tubes. That'd be nicely strange. A week later I might want to listen to some bi-amped bookshelfs or some big 3-ways.

I'm not thinking about buying a bunch of Soundesign modulars, but nor am I thinking about selling off my extras to get a Krell.

I'm there with Mark, it's kinda cool to have a closet full of gear to swap out just to mix things up. I've got a few different amps, preamps, integrated amps, speakers etc. There is something to be said about having a variety. No tube gear in my closet though. :(

Today is the last day I'll be able to enjoy my Panasonic SCHT95..and enjoy it I will.
Note about this player..it's a five disc changer, but all the discs are stacked one above the other. You have to go through a myriad of clicks, shuffles and relocations just to switch cd's. When it comes to the concept of carousel, this player doesn't know its elbow from its ****. It's ok though. The clicks and shuffles have a really catchy beat!!;)

It sounds good though. I'm pretty impressed with it for the money. Getting the sub to blend is difficult as I have only one location I can put it in.

I'm feeling very electronic today..gotta break out the Ministry collection and make the neighbors a little uncomfortable.

If you'll excuse me, I'm off to have my way with the panasonic. I'm making it's last day a good and rigorous one.

    Home Theater 90%
    2-Channel 10%

I am very content with my sound and do not see any changes or additions in the near future. Same goes with the video. May do a touch up ISF calibration on the TV early next year, but that'd be it. Towards the end of next year, swap out the Marantz for a dedicated pre/pro....maybe.

Other than that, I am very, very happy with the sound of my rig. At this point, it's time to buy some DVDs sit back and enjoy.

    Peace Out~:D

I relate to your apt situation. I try to avoid certain problems by not having a sub, & aiming for decent sound down to about 50 Hz. Accuracy for things like jazz vocals & acoustic music is much more important to me than it used to be. Many moons ago, the ability to level tall buildings with a single sound was all I cared about in a spkr.

What I need is time. By the time I get home from work, see the wife and two kids, do supper and playing and books and baths and bed and all that, then worry about any NON-audio/video stuff, the evening is about shot. Then, with kids in bed, we can't turn it up TOO loud, plus we always have one ear tuned into the monitor. More than any other use, our HT gets used for movies between 9pm and midnight, at medium volume. That is the primarly reason I was fine and dandy buying an inexpenive DD receiver last spring.. serves us wonderfully right now.

So, I need time to enjoy what I've got. And while I'd *never* wish away these times with my young (5 and 2) kids, I know that at some point in the future I'll have a relatively sound-proofed listening room and more time to use it.
