I've been thinking about buying a power conditioner for my HT setup. Particularly the Monster 3600. I can get a used one for around $200.00. Do they do anything to help the quality of the sound or are they mainly for surge protection? Is it a noticable difference or are they more for piece of mind that your eqiupment won't get fried?

Unless a unit can regenerate power, it's mostly for surge protection. Although, some can help with line noise.Political Correctness'.........defined

And if it's used, make sure it hasn't already taken a good hit from a surge. Not all of them are made to take multiple hits.DKG999

When I lived in my old towhnouse with my former modest HT, I picked up a Monster 2500 and I noticed a good difference in the sound. Even my roommate (the devil) noticed and she is oblivious to anything audio. It sounded cleaner, clearer and more dynamic.
When I added it to a dedicated line at my new (old) house, I could not tell a difference really.
So...I guess it depends. If you have a normal line I would say go for it.Sharp Elite 70

Plus, any unit like that is just way cooler than a power-strip anyway.

I bumped up to a HTS 5100 SS for the pretty blue lights. I didn't notice a difference, but it does give piece of mind, organization, and is a nice addition looks-wise in most cases.Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand

I have both Panamax and Monster power centers, I bought them mostly to switch all my components on and off with a single 12v trigger.
I have not noticed any difference in picture or sound, although there was never any noise in the system before installing them, so why would I? I would imagine that it depends on the power you are recieving. Are you having power related issues?
