    Chuckster.. welcome home man.

so what is the cause of GERDS, anyway? Is it a person's diet or what?

Yes, for Chuck it's clearly a case of too much Taco Bell.

    Joking.

Hey that's one of the drugs I used to sell. Just want to put in a disclaimer here, it's a popular drug, not as well known as nexium but the same stuff... anyway... if anyone else is taking it, follow your docs prescription, i know stereo and shizle posted the dose they take at twice a day and 3 times a day which is really overkill for 99.9% of the people out there on a PPI, but may be right for them, most people 1 pill once a day is plenty...anyway, the drugs are really safe and work great, great class of medication, if you have acid reflux go ask the doc for it.

couple of pointers...i'll keep it simple, unless people want real details. take the first pill about 30 minutes before your first meal in the morning. That class of medication has a really short half life, about 1 hr. so after it is absorbed into your system it goes to work on any active acid pumps. ya know that feeling you get in your stomach when you are really hungry in the morning and can feel the juices flowing... that's your vagus nerve stimulating acid production. the medicine binds to acidic sites, so if you skip the first pill until after you eat, the acidity drops (for most people, probably not stereo) and then the drug is not as effective... there is more to it, and there are exceptions between the different brands, and protonix is the most forgiving if you miss the best time, but bottom line, try and take it 30 to 60 mins before your first meal (and for those taking multiple per day, before each meal)in order to get the maximum efficacy...

stereo, there is a new surgical procedure to help control GERD
basically, they inject an inert gel into your lower esophagealic **** (at the bottom of your throat, the esophagus, terminates into a little **** before it dumps food into the stomach) That **** sometimes gets loose, (like other ones) and the acid comes up into your throat when you lay down to sleep, or during the day if the juices are really pumping. By injecting the **** they puff it up and make it tighter like collagen in the lips... it's been in the states for about 3 years now, but not everyone is doing it...Look into it.

and just for the record, so everyone knows i dont blow smoke, call it for the record, that while you were in the hospital i sent you (and mary) a PM saying if the pain was isolated to your upperbody, gerd could very well be the reason you were in so much pain, given your history as per her posting.

Danger boy.. google gerd, you will find a thousand links with pictures... im too tired to explain, sorry.

WB, did they find a hiatal hernia during the endoscopy or anything else to explain the GERD? GERD is nasty stuff when left untreated, glad you got it diagnosed.

Stereo_Luver, the picture of you girlfriend, Mary, was quite pleasant and she appears to be a very cute and charming young lady.
