FS: Sony STR-DA5ES AVR - Near Mint......

Up for sale is a near mint Sony STR-DA5ES Audio Video Receiver. I am the second owner (first owner was Brent McGhee). I bought it from him on the forum 2 years ago for $400.00 and it has had no problems at all. There are no cosmetic blemishes and it functions flawlessly. See for original thread: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37379
Some of the features include on-screen display, multi room capability, DTS - ES, Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro-Logic decoding, multiple DSP sound fields among NUMEROUS other features. I am upgrading and have no need for this anymore - Just time to try something new. I know there are not a lot of Sony ES fans here, but this thing is a beast and has A LOT to offer.
This includes the receiver, both remote controls, the power cord and manual (photocopy). It will not include the box. I would prefer to keep this as a local sale as it is heavy and will cost quite a bit to ship properly.
Asking $250.00. If no interest, I will put on e-bay in the next few days or so. Pictures will follow later today if needed but it looks exactly the same as the original thread. EDIT: I have no clue how to add photos, so interested people can PM or e-mail me and I will get them to you. They are ready to be viewed.

I had a 4ES that woud run SDA1C with no issues. I don't consider that the gold standard but its a testament to the build quality at the very least. The transformer is one of the larger iron cores I've seen in my usual travels. This is the last model year that the ES line really impressed me as the next evolution of them(STR-DA1000ES+) just stinks and continues to this day.
3 Zones? 6.1 with full component video support, great parametric EQ for you control freaks, DTS ES and PLII, multi-channel input/output.....just to rattle off some obvious features. $250? Good lord.
I would estimate shipping in CONUS to be around $30 w/ insurance.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Bump....with some new information:
Sony STR-DA5ES Digital Receiver
Employing three 32-bit processors, this rock-solid receiver provides ultra-precise surround decoding for Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, and Dolby Pro Logic II, plus Sony's Virtual Matrix 6.1 and Digital Cinema Sound modes. For maximum purity with analog signals (like the output from an SACD player), stereo, 5.1-channel and 7.1-channel analog direct modes bypass all DSP.
The STR-DA5ES boasts some serious amplification, too: 110 full-bandwidth-rated watts x 6; wide-range response out to 100kHz (great for SACD); high-linearity power capacitors for smooth, expressive audio; and a high-capacity power supply. The sixth channel of power lets you hook up a back surround speaker to complete a seamless 360° soundfield.
You also get a versatile 2-way LCD remote that puts control menus, radio station names, and CD titles (from compatible Sony changers) right in the palm of your hand. And three-room, three-source capability means you and two other housemates can all enjoy different sources simultaneously in different rooms. There's even a dedicated remote for the second room!
And check out the impeccable ES construction: frame-and-beam chassis, short signal paths, eight channels' worth of 192kHz/24-bit D/A conversion, non-linear heat sink fins to fight resonance — attention to every detail, inside and out! It even has an RS-232C port to enable future upgrades!
Details:
* Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, Dolby Pro Logic II, Virtual Matrix 6.1, and Digital Cinema Sound
* DTS Neo:6
* three 32-bit processors for surround decoding
* 3-room/3-source capability (A/V preamp out for 2nd room; stereo speaker out for 3rd room)

I've owned and still own several Sony ES receivers. I have not owned the 5ES but I have heard it and have read a lot of information on it. It is one of the best ES receivers out there, and for the price that Shawn is selling this for, it is one heck of a steal. I'm just surprised this is still available. I just purchased the DA7ES because I wanted 7.1, otherwise I would be all over this.
I truly believe this would be a significant upgrade versus the 2ES. I upgraded my HT system with the DA7ES replacing my V555ES receiver and it is a HUGE difference in sound quality, especially in SACD, HT and music. You can do some research over at agoraquest.com. There is a lot of information on the DA5ES.Home Theater

Hi All,
first post here. I post at the agoraquest site and the DA5ES is considered one of the best receivers made by Sony.
I am interested in this receiver. Could you tell me what the shipping cost
would be to Lynn Ma. 01904.
~Peter -
I am not absolutely positive, but from past experiences with double boxing and insured shipping, it would be close to $50.00. This receiver alone weighs 50 lbs!!!!! I'll work up a quote and let you know for sure sometime tomorrow as I am going out of town this afternoon and will not be returning until early tomorrow am.
Thanks,
ShawnShawn

Hi Shawn,
Thanks for your fast reply. Will the original box be included?
~Peter -
No, I unfotunately do not have the original box. I have A LOT of boxes, stryrofoam and bubble wrap to use to make sure it ships safely. I have sent quite a few electronics in my day and to date none have been damaged. Be sure that I will pack it VERY securely.

Hi Shawn,
I know your doing the correct thing by keeping the DA5ES. It is a great amp.
Also I saw your post on agoraquest and you will find a lot of good information about your receiver.

I didn't do the investigating, your potential buyer did. I just misinterpeted the date because I have been working for about 30 hours...
Carry on. -
No problem at all. Just wanted to clear up anything that might have been seen as misleading or dishonest - anyone here who knows me understands that I am not that way. Although I almost bit on the guy from Nigeria who was going to send me a check for $500 and have his movers pick up the receiver at my house. LOL!!!!! If in the future I decide to sell this, Peter (greekeyes) has first right of refusal.

I'm glad that you and Steve were able to properly set up your DA5ES.
When I am able to obtain a DA5ES the information that was exchanged between
the two of you will be of great help to me when I set up mine.
~Peter -
Peter,
Steve's a good dude and the info. he gave me was spot on. The AVR has never sounded better. I didn't feel like the return was worth it for me to sell it. It's worth more to me than I would have gotten for it. I watched the Polkfest DVD that I got from Sal again and it is crazy how much different a properly calibrated system sounds. I am ultimately happy that I decided to keep it, but also enjoy trying new things. I'll get the itch again, but PROBABLY won't get another AVR until it decodes the new formats and has HDMI (although I'm not really sure why ).
Although, the Cambridge 540 that Doro is selling is calling my name........Shawn

Putting this back on the market. With the purchase of the Outlaw 950 and the B&K AV5000, it would be a shame for this to sit unused. It is a stellar HT AVR and is in absolutely beautiful condition. Asking price is still $250.00. If someone is interested, I'd be happy to split shipping charges for the polkies.
