receiver vs. amp for RTi10s

I have an Onkyo 805, which is rated at 130 watts per channel. With it being 130 watts, would I need to get an amp with more power than that to hear an improvement in my RTi10s? I see so many people touting the advantages of dedicated amps, but would it make any sense to use a 100 or 125 watt two-channel amp -- would I hear any improvement?

    I'd stick with the TX-SR805.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Probably not much or worth the asking cost. Honestly you would hear a tonal difference with a better receiver or seperates. Most of your tone qualities from gear is in the preamp section. Running a amp with Onkyo , it will still sound like a Onkyo.

I have an H/K 7300 and I added an Adcom 6000. No noticable difference in sound, but I didn't expect to hear a difference. My H/K was running pretty hot and I wanted to take a little pressure off of it.

You know I have a Onkyo amp that says it pumps out 130 w per channel. How do I know this is true, how can I measure this?

I often heard that H/K with its modest 45 and 60 wpc is more accurate than Onkyo and others bloated wpc.

Kchill, I believe you have a 5xx series Onk. At best, it's putting 75w into 2 channels. Probably about 30w all channels driven. Entry level HKs do have more "presence" than that AVR...I owned it too. If you move up, get at least the 2xx series HK with pre-outs.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE
