Dammit, Pear -- I gotta stop reading your posts. Now you got me thinking about a "cheap" passive sub ($200 - $300; maybe DIY) for 2-channel powered by an unused channel on my HT amp (free), and a Reckhorn F-1 crossover ($49). I'd start with a single sub. If it sounds good, then I'd repeat it for stereo subs.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

As I have said before, the hardest part of this is finding a sub which has the sonic characteristics you want for music. Just getting any cheap sub may not provide the expected results starting another thread stating how subs should not be in a music system...

Put some effort and resources into this and reap the rewards.

actually I use the "hall" setting, very life like, lots of space and air, hell you could ride a magic carpet through the place on **** gas there is so much air.

you could get some more subs as well, and even more speakers, maybe even seven of them, man I bet that would sound awesome.

You may like it with the AAD's.Hope you do.But for me,getiing speakers that can do bass well was more important. With seperate subs on 2 channel, the bass always stuck out, more forward, drew attention to itself. Some songs it would sound good and others not so good.I finally was tired of having to adjust stuff for every couple songs.Though I would suggest doing dual subs in your case.
    HT SYSTEM-
    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21

    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Kitchen

    Sonos zp90

It's not that the AAD's don't produce bass, it's the exact opposite...they kick **** in that department, probably more so than a vast majority of so called floorstanders. I'm after that small range of low frequencies. Bass is the foundation of the music and containing most of the ambience of the recording venue, the total experience of reproduced music can only be experienced when both this foundation & this ambience exist.

Once you have experienced true deep bass as part of a total sound experience, you can't go back to anything else. This is something that a stand alone speaker simply can't deliver.

At least you gave it a shot, just too bad it didn't work out to your liking.

To break it down it simply means that bass is the underlying frequency that all music is based on & without it the music would not be pleasing at all.

A simple listening test is to play a well recorded piece of music & while the music is playing...shut the sub off. The soundstage shrinks down & the new sound seems like a poor imitation of the previous one. And this is true even when there is very little bass in the music. In other words you don't even realize it's there until it's not.

a better test is when you shut the system down, talk about a loss of sound..........yeesh.

    still subless in brunswick

RT1 seeks sub must be willing to provide ambience and have a solid bottom.
