What does this mean??

I recently purchased a used Marantz MM9000 amplifier. In the manual it says this for the input level control on the back of the amp for each channel:
When you use the MM9000 in a THX system the knob must be set to THX Ref (maximum position). Do I have a THX system and if so or not how do I figure this out? Right now I have the knobs set a little more then halway.

From what I recall, in order to get a THX certification for an amp there can't be any attenuation of the signal at the amp. I'm assuming it's so the levels of the channels are all correct based on the output of the pre amp/processor.

Personally, I don't worry about THX certification of equipment. It's not a guarantee that it'll sound good. I would run the system with the input level knobs of the amp maxed out, and use the pre amp to control the volume level.

Well if your theatre seats and your rack aren't THX certified but your gear is.... then your totally screwed. You don't want to mix.

None of your gear is THX certifiable except your amp so don't worry about it.

Keep the inputs at THX Ref unless you have level problems. Forget about it in regards to THX.

One good aspect of "THX Certification" is, and I could be mistaken about this, is that it makes things a little more honest in the ratings.

If two AVR's are rated at 110 watts/channel, and they're both "THX Certified", then that means with ALL channels driven, not "Two channels driven under a full moon at high tide ..... on the 2nd Tuesday of the month".

It should make it easier to compare apples with apples, oranges with oranges.
