Denon + On Scree Missing Volume Message

When I was using a component wiring hookup for video every time I changed the volume on my Denon AVR-887 I used to get (in green) what my volume setting was as I changed it. For quite awhile I've been using the HDMI hookup and that message has never shown on the screen. At 12' I can't read the little letters in it's little display/status window. Is this normal or do I have to change some magic setting on my Denon somewhere?

It's probablya "feature". Many receivers don't output OSD information through component or HDMI. I'm surprised yours did component.

My denon does the same thing- Vol. displays w/ cable, but not thru the dvdp.

I've used Denon for years and have never gotten on screen display with component, much less HDMI. Would be nice though.
