Polk Audio is a must!!

Here's the situation. I've got a grand in a couple weeks to blow on a home theater *give or take a hundred bucks* Sound and video playing focus only. *no tv* Polk speakers are a must, Reciever a must, DVD player a must. A DVD/Reciever combo is cool if it will hold its own against seperate components. To take it a bit further..I would like the possibility to upgrade this with a five channel amp of sorts when I get more coinage.
Online ordering is a must as most brick and mortar spots charge more. Reputable companies only please.
I'm probably asking too much as for upgrading with an amp...and probably being a bit too blunt *smiles* but I didn't want to candy this up.
Thanks in advance to any and all responses...

Where the hell have you ever seen a Receiver with a built in DVD player? If that's not destined to be one ugly piece of ****, I don't know what is........lol. (sorry.....just struck me as being weird)comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -

You might look into the RM series from polk. They usually have good deals at CC for those.
I'd look into something from Kenwood, Sony, HK, Yamaha for the amp, and the dvd can be a apex or something.LSi 9/C/FX

Even if you can find a DVD/receiver combo, I wouldn't buy it. If the DVD player has problems and has to go in for service, you're out a receiver as well. Same reason I think the DVD/VCR combos are a bad idea... chances are you'll end up with a unit that has a fully-functioning DVD side and - sooner or later - a **** or broken VHS side.. so THEN what do you do??

my thoughts exactly. i never understood those folks who buy the multiplayer units. like you said.. one unit goes down. you're out both till they get fixed. the day after Thanksgiving.i was out like all the other crazy shoppers.. lots of those multiunit players were being snatched up like they were gold or something. boggles the mind huh?PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

liquidsound, that's going to be tough.. a grand for all you want to purchase. i know i don't think i could do it for that. i'll be interested to know what you decide to go with. keep us up to date. I'd go for a decent receiver in the $500 - $700 range. reason being.. the receiver is the heart of most ht systems. you can get a Polk speaker package, then later down the road get your dream Polks to replace the package unit ones.
As for a DVD player. i've had two Toshiba players in the last three years. i've been happy with both of them. very little problems, and priced pretty good. I've never had either one of them had to go in for service. I use my DVD players almost on a daily basis.
don't you just hate it when electonics last forever?PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Look, if you are serious about this, stay away from the Sony including the ES. Yamaha, Pioneer Elite, Denon, Onkyo are the good choices. Sony made great video products: TV, DVD etc...but not audio, especially A/V receivers. For $1,000 budget, I check out the Yamaha products first.

Yeah, screw the sony bit. I have got a lemon sitting on the shelf, str de915 what a piece of s***. When it worked it got very hot and so out went the outputs plus some other parts that were in the chain with them. If you do not believe me go to audioreview.com and type in that number and read and weep.
Oh yeah tried to call sony on the damn thing , as soon as I told them the model # of the equipment they hung up on me.....several times. Do yourself a favor and don't even give sony a second glance, I guess I am stuck with one huge paper weight.:supermad:"Its worked so far but we're not out yet."
"Hey big man let me hold a dollar" -
in your price range.. Marantz, Onkyo, Denon and Yamaha all make decent receivers. I have to agree.. stay away from the Sony line. I don't know anyone who has a Sony and are thrilled about it.
People seem to flock to Sony and Bose. for some odd reason like bees to honey. I could have said.. like flies to ****.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Haha..
Thanks guys for all your help, I really appreciate it. I'm thinking the Denon 1603, with the Polk rm6000 series, undecided on the DVD player, and monster cables/wires.
I'm also still debating whether I should pay the higher price and go with crutchfield, or get better stuff by saving cash with an internet distributor. If I did go with a net company, any suggestions??
Thanks again guys.Two Channel Main

6th Ave for your 1603. You might need to do a little negotiating but they have always given me the best price and they are Denon authorized.
As for DVD I have had very good luck with Toshiba and Panasonic players."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Do you have any space requirements?
Have you checked ebay yet?
To me the rm series would be a little week.
I looked at it but decided to go with other polk speakers and am very happy I did. Future upgrade should be no hassle.
checking ebay heres what I found:
Monitor 7C with stands( for Fronts): $125
Monitor 5jr ( for rear): $125
Cs250-S (center) : $100
PSW-250 (sub): $169
Denon 1603 :$272
Pioneer Elite Dv-C36: $275
Total Cost: $1066
I think you would be more happy with this. All of the speakers match. Sound would be great. They could all handle the power both now and in the future. If you upgrade and sell, I'm sure they would sell better that the Rm series.
Check with the other on the forum as I am no expert.
Hope this helps. -
Yep, I've got space 'issues'. Bookshelves are a must.
This is what I've compiled so far.
Denon 1603-$272 or the 1803 for $355.00 <--still weighing options vs. cost on this one.
Rti28-two pair-$410
Csi20-$110
Psw202-$159 or the Psw250-$179 <--not sure which on I'll choose between these. Total without shipping, with the 202 is $951, or $1034 with the 1803. This is minus shipping, wire and interconnects..and doesn't leave me much room for a dvd/cd player. *the ps2 will suffice*
I'm not sure how far I can push above a grand. Maybe a hundred, maybe two..that remains to be seen.
By the way, any recommendations on reasonably priced wire/interconnects for this combination of equipment? Two Channel Main

I like Polktycoon's route.
If you got new would you be able to take advantage of that free Psw202 offer?
For interconnects I'd just go with a cheap optical for the PS2 and some RatShack 14awg speaker wire.Make it Funky! -
I like polktycoon's route as well. Those would look/sound impressive but be too space comsuming. I'm also liking the size of the rti28's. Also the fact I'd be getting something new. Not wondering how long it will take to break something in the used speakers. And no I wouldn't be able to use the free sub offer due to an unauthorized dealer purchaseTwo Channel Main

Well, due to my hard drive hungry computer..which has eaten five so far. I must take care of that first. The comp is making me much more money than the system would. The good thing about it is, when I finally get a system, the budget will be more like 1300 to 1500 dollars. Maybe more! It will give me more research time and I should be living in a house when it all culminates. *looking on the bright side*Two Channel Main
