I left the following message with the seller:
"Dear Fellow Ebay Member:
If your speakers are indeed SDA SRS 1.2's, then you have the wrong specifications listed. The specifications you list, such as 93 dB efficiency, 4 ohms impedance, and 125 dB maximum output level are specs for the earlier model SDA SRS.
The SDA SRS has 91 dB efficiency, is 6 ohms impedance, etc. If you look on the back of the speaker and it has SRS 1.2 as part of the serial number, then it is the SDA SRS 1.2 model. If it just has SRS with no "1.2" in the serial number, then it is the SDA SRS model. There were three versions of the SRS. There was the "original SDA SRS which was made from 1985-1987, the SDA SRS 1.2 which was made from 1987-1988, and the SDA SRS 1.2TL which was made from 1989-1991.
I just wanted to help to avoid any potential misunderstanding with a buyer. The people who buy these speakers are rather particular about which version they get. I own the SDA SRS and the SDA SRS 1.2TL.
I wish you success with your sale."
I was tempted to give the seller some pricing advice, but I'll let the marketplace do that.

I just noticed these beasts are in CANADA. I don't even wanna think about shipping. :supermad:Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -
2 CRS's are available, CRS and the CRS+...
Let's all see how much these will go.
The CRS+ includes original cables...hmmm it is so tempting...Nah doesn't match my set-up! I wish there is CRS+TL's....:D
Yeah... I really wish CRS+ with SL3000's ...(CRS+TL's)

Raife1,
I see you have the SRS and the SRS 1.2TL. Is thier really that much difference in the sound? I have never heard the 1.2tl's.
Thanks for your comments,
James -
James,
With each generation of SDA's, improvements were made in stereo imaging, resolution, accuracy of frequency response, and construction quality.
The differences between the SRS and the SRS are the following:
1. The SRS uses the MW6503 driver in both the stereo and SDA arrays. The 1.2TL uses the MW6503 driver in the stereo array, but uses the MW6511 driver in the SDA array. The 1.2TL has a little better stereo depth and width, but it is not a night and day difference.
2. The SL2000 tweeter of the SRS has a resonance peak at 13,000 Hz. That resonance peak was corrected with the SL3000TL tweeter used by the 1.2TL. The SRS is a little bit brighter than the 1.2TL. Some people prefer the sound of the SL2000 tweeter because it has more of an "airy" sound. I prefer the more accurate sound of the SL3000 tweeter.
3. The 1.2TL has improved internal bracing to reduce internal resonances that can blur fine detail.
4. The 1.2TL has an improved and simplified crossover to accommodate the new SDA drivers and tweeters.
5. The SRS uses laminated solid wood boards in the end caps that will sometimes form cracks along the lamination seams. The 1.2TL uses a solid piece of wood with edge banding to eliminate the seam cracking problem.
6. The SRS is a 4 ohm speaker whereas the 1.2TL is a 6 ohm speaker. The 1.2TL does not present as demanding a load to an amplifier.
In summary, the 1.2TL has better resolution, better stereo imaging, depth , and width, and flatter frequency response than the original SRS. The differences are noticeable, but not "night and day" drastic. I enjoy both of them immensely.:)
My SRS's were manufactured in September of 1987 and purchased in July of 1988 (they came with original boxes, receipt, and manual). They had been well cared for and were in near-mint condition except for a minor scuff mark on the outer edge of the top left speaker and a minor lamination seam crack in the top left speaker. A little sanding/wood filler/touch-up stain restored them to mint condition. :cool:Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -
I have SRS 1.2's that have been upgraded to TL's I looked at my serial # and it just says SDA SRS 5424 I do not see 1.2 anywhere on the speaker. What do you think?
-
The Serial number of mine was with silver sticker it reads:
(SRS 1.2TL L 6252) this is the Left channel and the
Right channel (SRS 1.2TL R 7027). Both speaker have
different serial numbers.:)
Har -
My numbers are SDA SRS 5330 and 5338, also with no 1.2 in the serial number. The front of the eight drivers also have SR 142/ 17 on each face. Now I'm wondering if this is the 1.2 or the SRS.Main System: Polk SDA SRS 1.2 Speakers, Sunfire Signature 600~two Amp, Carver C-16 Preamp, Carver TX-11b Tuner, Marantz 6350Q TT, Philips CDR-775 Recorder, Teac V-707RX Cassette Deck, Signal Cable Double Run Speaker Cable

So that means that both of you doesn't have the 1.2 written
on your SRS... It might be possible that the Model will be
SDA SRS not SDA SRS 1.2
I don't know what do you think? -

How to tell for sure:
1. You can take one of the dimensional drivers out and see what model number is written on the back. If it says MW6511, you have a SRS 1.2. If it says MW6503, you have a SRS.
2. If the top and bottom wood end caps are made of laminated boards and you can see the lamination seams on the edges on the caps, you have a SRS. If the end caps appear to be a solid piece of wood with horizontally grained edge banding, you have a SRS 1.2.
3. If the serial number has "1.2" in it, you have the SDA SRS 1.2. If the serial number does not have "1.2" in it, you have the SDA SRS.;)Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -
Very well said raife...now you know what do you have;)
-
The drivers are 6503 and 6511. No laminations in the end caps and no 1.2 in the serial #. I think with a serial # of 5000 or above they are 1.2s But something is fishy because the schematic of the inputs shows two funny looking blade blade connections and mine are the pin and blade. With the pin and blade connection this is further proof that they are indeed 1.2s.
-
Har, The crs+TLs you wished for never made it into producion. They were going to be called called 4.1TLs. Tom

The flood gates are open... 6 SDA's are available at ebay...
including the 3.1TL's
Grab one for yourself...:) -
You seem to be quite knowledgeable on a subject that I am researching. About 4 years ago, I came across a pair of SDA's that I am trying to find more information on. The serial number on the right speaker is R SDA-SRS-2 1228. It is identified as a Signature Reference System 2. Is this newer than the 1.2TL? What can you tell me about my speakers? I love them, and would like to find another set for my bedroom.

Steve, Welcome to the forum!
Your SRS 2's are older than the TL series and are close to the 1C's except you have a 15" PR and the 1C's have a 12". There were 2 models of the SRS 2's, one with a pin/blade cable and the other with a twin blade, which do you have? This model is one that you don't see much of, but the 1C would be a good match. You can see the parts listing for these if you click Service and Parts above, then click on Find the parts you need.....then click on SDA.Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks F1nut (for welcoming me, plus the info).
By twin-blade, are you referring to the interconnect cable? If so, it is a twin-blade arrangement. The speakers themselves have 4 drivers, 2 tweaters, and the woofer does look like a 15". I don't need any parts for them though. These things were well taken care of by their original owner, and I have cared for them as well. They put some THX certified Boston Accoustics speakers I own to shame.
Actually, I was thinking more of finding an additional set of speakers and using one set for my bedroom stereo. I have been looking around on Ebay, but fear of shipping expenses to the Phoenix area have kept me from bidding on any pairs I have seen recently. If the TL's sound better than these, they must be a very sweet set of speakers. -
OK F1nut, now I know why you referred me to the parts list. It is a good way to see the difference between speaker configurations. Thanks! It looks like the 1.2TLs are the ones I want to get next. Now hopefully I can find some reasonably close to home.

The 1.2TL's can still go for some coin, up to $3000.00 in great shape. There are alot of them in CA, so shipping shouldn't be too bad. I had a pair of 2.3TL's shipped from CA to MD for about $250.00 which I thought was reasonable. Yes, the TL's will sound better, smoother highs, better mids and more bass. When shopping for SDA's you'll have to watch out for Har, he's a SDA hoarding mo-fo....lol. Actually, I think he's done for awhile.
BTW, the twin blade models are the oldest (still great) and glad I could help.Political Correctness'.........defined

$3,000 is a lot for a set of speakers; however, I think they are worth the money. Getting my SRS-2s for $800 in mid 1998 is what started me on a lasting obsession with upgrading my home theater setup. I never thought I would find anything that would bump these speakers to my secondary system, but I now have something to look forward to.
Tell you what. If I see some 1.2TLs on Ebay, I'll post a message to you so you can distract Har and give me a chance to win them. OK? -
They are well worth it. Some have been had for a little over a grand, it just depends. The 2.3TL's are very nice also and worth considering, you can usually get them for $1000 to $1500.00. Now, about Har! I'll see what I can do. He's running a pair of 1.2TL's and a pair of 2.3TL's up front!!!
I should probably mention that these bigger Polk's like alot of clean high current power to make them sing.Political Correctness'.........defined

My speakers serial say, L-SDA-SRS-3410 I have eight drivers and four tweeters and a 15" passave woofer. They have walnut end caps and side strips. I bought then in 1986, could you please tell me what type of SRS I have.Mollyboat

Charles,
It seems that you have the SDA SRS series which would be the early version and not the 1.2 or 1.2TL.

I haven't been able to find the 3.1 TLs. The 1Bs are black, I didn't know they came in black.
-
That's because 3.1TL's were up for auction back in December.
Polk offered SDA's in a black "studio" version.Political Correctness'.........defined
