Nice. I usually keep it under 2000 RPM for best fuel economy.

You said you had it up to 3500? Talk about lousy gas mileage...

For drifting? I don't think you could get the car to spin at 2000....

For daily driving i just leave it in drive and drive the car as an automatic, no manual.

Gas mileage in this car sucks anyway.

I don't know, never drifted before.

Just keep the RPM's under 2000 and you'll get good gas mileage. Well at least that's how its like with the Maxima.

In Canada, I always see someone literally drifting through residential streets on the first snow fall. A lot more fun than going in circles, but sometimes you can't see around the bend. You need to know the dangerous spots.

I used to do it with a freaking Sentra. Manual tranny and I never got above 4k. Sometimes you need to give the gas a jerk getting you to 5k for a split second. No where close to dangerous levels and there's very little torque involved.

edit: appadv, please keep quiet. Gas mileage? For snow drifting? Where are you going with this?

Having an engine reving at 4k with the tires spinning means you're dealing with slip traction. You can't transmit much power from the wheels to the ground when this happens. Therefore, the engine is not working hard in terms of torque and horsepower. Stop and go from your house to the pizzaria is worse.

So you're saying as long as the RPMs are under ~4k you should be safe?

Someday I'm going to post a video about how to get the best gas mileage in a G35/Maxima. And no, it doesn't involve drifting ;)

Might as well have a little fun while the snow is still kicking around... I did the same thing in a parking lot with a 95 camry (5 speed). It's both entertaining and a good way to learn how your car reacts in slippery conditions.

    What was your friend driving?

Ah, I see. Does the G35x still use the VQ35DE found in Maxima's?

    Yep.

Thanks for clearing that up. For some reason I was under the impression that they used different motors, but I guess I was wrong.

I can understand your fun at drifting...its fun and addictive...I just find no joy watching it as a perceived "Sport" on tv is all

My UpRev tuned VK56 Nissan V8 would one wheel peel till I let off on the gas...so I installed a TrueTrac differential http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/ProductsServices/PerformanceProducts/Products/Differentials/DetroitTruetrac/index.htm ...now it lights up both rear tires and made it awesome for both track and street with one minor drawback ( Well some wouldnt think it to be a drawback ;) ) ...it will drift in ANY corner now ...even on bone dry pavement. I had to learn really fast to stay out of the throttle in corners in public ;)

    What?

I don't want to modify my car, I was just having fun.

The chances of blowing the motor from what I just did? Slim to none. The ground was all ice and snow and i wasn't really on the gas. The tires are junk so it was pretty easy to get a slide going.

    Yes, it was a blast.....:D

Very true, but when there are no resistance on the bearing s in wheels, they tend to over heat and melt the grease thats holding them together.. Also sliding sideways in a car will put extra stress on items such as hubs, sway arms and half shafts. If you dont want to pull the ebrake and fake it, i can sell you my evo :D

I didn't pull the e-brake and I will definately pass on an evo. I could have bought one when I bought my car. I'll take my car over an evo 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
