Only hearing fuzzing sound at 75% volume

Hooked up my Rti-8's to an old Pro Logic receiver of mine last night and all I got was fuzzy music at 75% volume from both the DVD running a CD and FM radio. Tried another speaker I know is good and same thing. Is my receiver just toast? Already ordered a new one but now I'm wondering if the speakers are damaged or something happened in the first hook-up.

The receiver was working last month, I stuck it in a closet for a little while (sideways). I wasn't being real careful with it, but don't think that alone would break it? I'm more concerned about the speakers at this point.

I'm wondering if there is a short in the speaker or receiver? Not sure how to test for that and I won't have another receiver to try until Fri. If there is a short in the speaker will it damage the new receiver?

If the problem exists with more than one pairs of speakers....it probably ain't the speakers.

Sounds like your receiver might be toast.

That's what I'm hoping, it's just an old clunker. Was just wondering if I somehow took them both out with one shot or something. I got home and looked at the hookups again and there is no way I somehow crossed wires so my guess is it's just the receiver (thank goodness).
