Without Receiver... PLEASE HELP!!!

I was about to buy the Onkyo 805 and then started reading about all the heat that this thing puts off and that it has actually caused damage to other people's equipment. SO that being said I am wondering about the Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH which seems to be the comparable model to the Onkyo. I can get the Pioneer for $868 at authorized electronics online. So I guess with my set-up, RTi8's, CSi A6, FXi A4's, and a DSW Pro 500 which is the better receiver? Do I need to fear the 805's overheating? Please help I am without a receiver!!...

    I have owned and currently own an Onkyo receiver over the last 6 years and yes, they do put off a little heat. More on the newer than older ones because of all the video processing that all receivers to do anymore. I have seen this happen with other brands too including Marantz, Yamaha, Denon, etc. The main thing is with ANY receiver is not to stack anything on top of them and give them ample breathing room. Mine stays about as warm at idle as it does playing movies.

    I have the onkyo and yes it get warm but not burning hot

    Yesss. Best advice I got from these forums when I bought my Denon was to let it rest alone, and to make sure it had pre-amp outs. I don't have anything stacked on, under or near my receiver, and I've never had any heat issues at all.

    I don't think you're looking for input on the brand, but IMO you can do better in a receiver for $900 - Cambridge, Outlaw, and NAD all have models in that price range, not to mention H/K and Denon, among others

    If I got the 805 and put it on the bottom shelf of my stand (only option I have) not sure it would have the most clearence above but it would sit alone. Just don't want to overheat my equipment above..

    i am in the same boat. i was thinking of getting the 805, but i read about the heat and lip sync problems on many forums. the heat i could live with, just buy a external fan. I read good things about the Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH though. Can anybody chime in on this.

    I got 805 I don’t have any problem with it everything is working fine, I had it for two weeks now and I’m not experiencing anything bad so far so good...

    805 rocks!

    All receivers run hot, the 805 just runs slightly hotter because it has a very powerful current-driven amp that can be made to run much cooler if you use an external amp.

    Many people use the 805 as a Pre/Pro.

    Believe me, for under $800, there is nothing that comes close!
