I had plans to do this for some time now, but never thought it would make a difference and had not done it. I was so wrong. Even though the rack was a good feet behind the drivers, splitting it in two and leaving all that area between the speakers free, made a huge improvement oin imaging and holographic presentation.

If you have the possibility of doing this, don't think twice.

Good job, the polk sign is much more visible now; big improvement ;)

Yeah, experimenting with the placement of stuff is the only tweak that makes measurably & subjectively significant changes, and it's free! Careful speakers & seating placement is IME even more effective than moderate acoustic treatments (though it looks like you've got more than a moderate amount of the latter ;)).

Looks good. I've been thinking about moving things around so there's less clutter between the speakers also.

    Are those MIT speaker cables?

Don't forget to update your showcase.

I tried mine last night with nothing between (or behind) and it was great! Added a LOT of depth to the soundstage. Well worth the effort. Thanks for the heads up.

I did this shortly after I got my last pair of speakers. Didn't notice squat in terms of gains in holography (probably due to the fact that I'm listening to some big ESL hybrids). I did put the VR-2's back briefly in this "new" config and got the holographic thing going on with them too.

I've found that smaller 2 way speakers have a 100% better imaging. Not saying I won't have a pair of 3 way floorstanders again, but there's some magic in monitors.

I am very happy with the S3's; initially it was HORRIBLE; went from harsh to dull, back to harsh, had no life; after a week or so (as directed by our resident MIT expert) it was like someone clicked a switch; bass has more authority, mids are sweet and highs are very accurate and pleasant. I am very happy (Of course I am making all this up, since cables don't do squat).

Yes; does not happen frequently, but I have made a few changes between pic 1 and 2.

Yep, I did that years ago. Makes a huge improvement in presentation when there is nothing at the tweeter or midrange height in between the speakers. Many years ago I did the whole entertainment center thing with the speakers on each side, etc. When i changed things around it was dramatic.
