Seriously, My amp is shocking me...

no seriously... Ever since I plugged my amp in yesterday I have been zapped with static electricity by various component attached to my system.

first I got zapped by the corner of the face plate, I wanted to see how warm the amp got after an hour of good use...

I thought that wierd, then I went to eject a dvd from my ps3 which is about 5 shelves below and one column over, and I got zapped pressing the eject button (That has never happened before).

Then I was checking out one of my front speakers and I was wiping away some dust near one of the mid cones and I got tagged by some static electricity, then I went to turn off the amp and when I pressed the off button I got tagged a fourth time and I could see the arc o'pain zap me.

Maybe I should return these fuzzy slippers and silk pajamas to Hammecher schlemmer, or maybe someone can tell me what the Hell is going on here...
seriously I wasnt wearing fuzzy slippers, what the hell is going on here..
ps. the amp sounds great, shockingly clear...

    Get a humidifier in the room.
    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    It happens in the winter. Are you wearing slippers. Do you have carpeted floors upon which you and your slippers are walking when you go to change CDs?

    It's so dry here and I have carpet on the floor to boot. I touch the metal frame of the rack before I touch any gear.

    It is dry in here.. central coast of california but dry..totaly arid. wood floors, rubber reef sandals not slippers...

    I think I am going to buy some giant rubber gloves next

    well i often get shocked if i come into contact with the tv areal and a ground, we recon that its because the tv booster has a floating ground and with interference it just keeps on rising until poor me comes along ,gets woken up after all ready being awake.
    ive being shocked through phono cables and so on but only when i offer a ground path (ie leaning on the corner of a case).
    sounds like you have some major issues (patronising i know).
    perhaps your new amp is the cause by having bad grounding?
    perhaps your new amp doesn’t offer a path to ground whereas your older amp does?


    does your new amp a grounded design or is it double insulated?
    do you have a TT in your system without adequate grounding?
    have you got any very long cable runs that can pick up em interference?
    long areal run going to the amp?

    I discharge myself (electrically) on my daughter or my wife before I touch the stereo. It bugs the **** out of them. I just laugh cause it is great fun.

    What is your amp plugged into? You typically get more discharge if it is plugged directly into the wall than a power conditioner.

    this happen to me most of the winter.. it finally stopped about two weeks ago.. it's static electricity because of the dry season.

    i'd say.. leave your amp on if it zaps you to much ;)

    Its the insulating property of the rubber thats causing your problem to begin with....take the sandals off and no socks...problem solved.

    :DI usually strip down naked before I turn on my equipment. Seriously this is not a problem I have at all but have an electrostatic filter on my HVAC system. It makes the air very clean as well so when you build a house make sure you put one in!

    come on shadow.. im only 30, do you think I wear socks with my sandals..

    Well I have a line conditioner coming on monday..so hopefully that solves the problem. For now I have it plugged into a decent surge protector.. but yeah it has to be the amp generating this static charge...never experienced it before...glad It is not a defect with the amp. thanks for the feedback.
