Rotel RB-985 Multi-Channel Amplifier(5) - 9/10 - Black - *SOLD* to Mr.Nightly
I have a nice 5 channel amplifier from Rotel that's in the way of some other gear. It's clean, working and THX certified. It's 100wpc@8/220wpc@4 and THX ensures it's a solid, actual output power figure. It's 4ohm stable. A couple features I like are the discrete modular circuit design, which is identical between all channels and a big fat toroid transformer.
You could also bi-amplify a 2CH rig with this and some nice LSi speakers, for example.
Aesthetically, it's unassuming and easily integrated into most rigs, provided you have other black gear I guess. It's a simple, straightforward design. It sure would look good with a nice Rotel DVD player...hint hint. If you want to build a Rotel 5.1 rig, let me know as I have the rest of the gear as well.
Five channels of amplification
THX certified
100 watts rms output per channel at 8 Ohms
Frequency response 10 Hz - 80 kHz plus or minus 0.5 dB
Harmonic distortion less than 0.03%
Input impedance 27 kOhm
Damping factor 180
Size 5 1/2"H x 17 3/8"W x 15 5/8"D
Weight 34 pounds
All connections have been cleaned with CAIG products and it's packed to withstand an atomic blast.
I have the matching 5.1 components available for a complete system. It's vintage but if you don't use your AVR as a video switcher, which I certainly don't, it doesn't really matter what video inputs are on the unit. Just a thought, since that stack looks pretty trick.
Includes: Reproduction owners manual.

Sorry I misread thinking it was 7ch....

I just don't know as my Marantz MA700 are good amps and I don't know how Rotels 100w are compared to Marantz 200ws?

I couldn't say as I've never heard those amps.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

how would this do pushing RTi12's for HT usage? Worth it, or should I go with possibly something heftier?

+1. I'm eyeing a pr of 12's myself. And PIC'S please.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

I just added some pics of the Rotel amplifier and the matching Rotel 5.1 gear. A complete 5.1 rig with an outboard digital processor is pretty cool....vintage, but cool. The marks on the units are photo artifacts, not aesthetic issues.
MrNightly - The Denon gear that I've owned has been solid. Separate amplification has benefits over most AVR's. You don't need something heftier for a loudspeaker rated at 90db.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Keep in mind, if you have pre-outs on your AVR/Receiver....you could bi-amp your mains with this amp and let the AVR handle the rest. The overall improvement should be pretty stellar for 2CH and could have residual effects for the HT.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? You would not need anymore power for those speakers unless you where trying to fill a 30 by 50 room at reference levels. Even then I would bet it would work. Your speakers are easy to drive and this amp has alot of current and dynamic range. It's a killer deal. If I needed a amp I would have already picked this up.Dan

My timing seems to be perfect for somethings and way out there on others. Wish I hadn't just bought another amp.
I'll blame it on a time warp in the fabric of the universe that I can't grab this.

I was debating on dumping the Emotiva LPA-1 that I pre ordered. It was supposed to ship NLT 30 Jan. They finally shipped on 2/11. (Kinda pissed me off that they charged my card, not just got approval, 20 days before they shipped.)
I've also got a commitment on a balanced 2 ch amp. While music sounds Ok thru the HT system, I figured I would enjoy it more out of a 2ch system and in a different room.

I like Rotel gear myself...
If I had the extra coin, all the Rotel gear that Mark has posted earlier would have found it`s way to me...
