Newbie hookup question

Hi guys - new member here.
Bought an RM6750 system with a PSW110 yesterday to replace my existing NHT Super 1 and 2s (space issues), and am not sure what hookup option to use for the speakers.
The receiver has separate inputs for 5.1 hookup (RCA plugs), hookup by ordinary speaker wires, and it also has a pre-out for each channel. The fronts and center seem to work, but I don't get anything out of the satellites and the sub. Tried using LFE or Line in settings but no luck. Fronts are set to 'small', woofer is set to 'yes' (for the LFE hookup).
What also confuses me is that there is an 'LFE Mix' setting on the receiver that goes from 0 to -20; not sure what that's for.
Any help would be much appreciated - I'd like to get this thing up and running...!
Thanks!

Hello,
Polk has a tried-and-true method for testing to see if the subwoofer is working or not. Turn the sub volume down and remove the sub-cable. Bring your DVD player over to the sub and run two good RCA cables from the right and left out on the player to the right and left in on the sub. Start playing a CD and turn the sub volume up a little bit. You should hear lots of bass, if you do turn the volume back down and pull out the two RCA cables. Take your sub-cable and connect one end to the right or left output on the player and the other end to any of the inputs on the sub. Turn the levels back up if no bass you have a bum cable. If you hear bass then it's the receiver's programming that is at fault. When you say you don't hear the satellites, do you mean the surround speakers?
Have you done the setup calibration, yet? If so, that will tell you if the surrounds are connected correctly.

Is Jed Leland to Ken Swauger what Marshall is to Mr. Brooks??
Just curious.

Well - I can report that I finally did get it to work, using suggested setup #2: front L + R from the receiver to the sub, then from the sub to the fronts; fronts set to 'large', sub to 'no', surrounds and center set to 'small.
Works fine for DVDs and audio (apart from more more fine tuning). The only thing that doesn't work is audio from the TV - I can get sound from the TV speakers, but nothing through the receiver.
TV{ BiewSonic N3752w HD LCD, Motorola DT3416 I HD DVR and Panasonic upconverting DVD - both connected to TV via HDMI; SPDIF optical from TV to receiver. The receiver shows it has the correct digital connection. It is Dolby Pro Logic and DTS capable.
Probably just not configured right, but - I'm at a loss.
Thanks guys.
