Zeta Talk
Before I say anything, I'd like to get some responses from all of you about some of these subjects.
Personally, I've been wanting to start a thread about certain subjects "telepathy, telekenisis, pyrokenisis, aliens" and the like. But I wasn't sure where to begin. I heard this lady on AM radio last night and she piqued my interest..but not my belief. So anyway, I'll just throw this out there and see if anyone bites. *points to the unoccupied soapbox*

Not a whole lot man...just enjoying *as much as possible* that little panasonic system.
Personally, I love debating subjects such as these. I invite someone to tell me things aren't possible. I respect their ideas..although I see it as a challenge to alter their point of view. Even if it does make them uncomfortable.
Anyway...I'm out for the night. I hear the Fifth Element calling my dinky little panasonic. *smiles*

Possibility is not the same as probability.
Here's the bottom line:
Possibility is not the same as probability.
Tattoo that on your forehead, and you'll never go wrong.
Only in America, where we have all this free effing time to decide between McDonalds and Burger King, which kind of poison we're going to anesthesize ourselves with next as if there's a difference, do we have time to even contemplate the idea of "zeta talk."
Possibility is not the same as probability.
In Bulgaria, you think they are thinking about this? India? Africa? No. NO NO NO. They are too concerned with the things of real life, like where their next scrap of food is coming from, to worry about the nonsense that has free reign in the leisure-besotted USA.
Possibility is not the same as probability.
Look the words up.
If you were not trying to do anything at all to distract yourselves from your mortgages, from your unhappiness, from your problems, from your jobs, from your children's failures, from your lives, you wouldn't give "zeta talk" or your "energy" or the voices in your head or making contact with your dead uncle to find out where he stashed the cash you know he had, and anything like it, a second glance.
Possibility is not the same as probability.
Get back to the real life. Ignore the flim flam. Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence. Demand it. Possibility is not the same as probability.
There's your skeptical view. Top it, you freaks. -

Perhaps not those countries exactly, but did you see how many languages the site has been translated into? Well, I'm not backing the claims of the site, I just took it as a chance to break the ice into such subjects. Two Channel Main

<<
So what? Listen to yourselves. Is this proof that people of those languages actually read that? Proof? No. Just translations. We translate manuals into five languages. Think we sell any speakers in BRAZIL? Yeah, we sell THREE PAIRS a year.
Possibility is not the same as probability.
Think about it. -
Well said Venom.
I think Micah's *Bold*, *Possibility is not the same as probability*
and *Repetitive* keys are stuck on his keyboard. hehe.
So maybe you only sell 3 pairs of speakers to brazil a year. Does that mean that only three brazillian speaking people buy your speakers every year? Oh, but I guess you only have time to think about speakers and otherwordly matters once you live in the states..right?
Regardless of how many people are starving, regardless how people can be misled by information on the net, regardless of how much of a quack zeta talk seems to be, I haven't heard one person say why there can't be anything. Aliens, telepathy, pyrokenisis..any of it.
I'm not looking for a skeptical view of the importance in putting your energy into such subjects. I wanna know why *any of it* can't be true. Not just zeta talk...
I'm also not just looking for skepticism. I want pro-arguements as well.
I also bet some of ya's don't wanna say anything for fear of looking like a freak...heh.Two Channel Main

When a very small child I gazed into the stars with Awe. Finding out that a field of study, Astonomy, existed thats what I wanted to be. Then there are the goals of our family and we get pushed into their ideal. The Pennsylvania State University mandated **** courses so I took advantage of the situation my senoir year by taking freshman level astronomy and had a debate with the prof that led into a GREAT friendship and HOBBY. With that said the Prof picked my brain and invited me into a graduate level astrophysics course that I took and curved better than 70% of the class. 1 astronomy course and 3 yers of EE I did better than 70% of the cream and it was only an Elective.
All I'm trying to say here is that the **** Courses that must be managed may bring Huge Value too your Life.
just my 2c
I was a terrible student with 1 hell of an imagination. Do not ever limit yourself over nonsense.

Nothing I say is irrelevant. Except this, this is irrelevent: I can't find a RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK widescreen VHS on eBay. That was irrelevent.
By and large, American's ARE the only people who concern themselves with this kind of hokum. We have more money and more leisure time than anyone else, and so we dream up these idiotic diversions for ourselves. More money and more free time = more looney things have at our attention spans. Maybe I'm "wrong" to generalize when I say that NO ONE in other, less leisure-oriented countries thinks about this stuff, but I don't think that's an untrue statement. You think in Chile they are plotting and planning and thinking about aliens? I doubt it. They're thinking about where their next meal is coming from. When you have real-world concerns like that, you don't bother with obvious nonsense. Your priorities get straight pretty quick.
The most relevent things I've said so far are: Possibility is not the same as probability, and extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence.
>>
I haven't heard one person say why there can't be anything. Aliens, telepathy, pyrokenisis..
<<
I'm not saying "there can't be." We can all have loads of fun conjecturing about stuff that would be neat if it existed. It's a religious debate. I'm saying, the evidence, what evidence there is, is AGAINST it, or at best inconclusive. Possibility is not the same as probability. Actually, the burden is on YOU to provide ME with proof that what you are discussing exists, and is therefore worth my time to discuss with you. I don't have to prove to you that these things DON'T exist, you have to prove to me that they DO. Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence. (Carl Sagan said that, BTW.)
We can talk all day about aliens and stuff; I'm not trying to rain on your parade. But in the end, we -- right-thinking folks -- have to admit that there is no solid proof of any of this, and that it is a waste of time. Seriously, think about the two statements I bolded in the above paragraph.

You're thinking of "Cathrine Zeta Reticuli."
I believe in her, yessiree. -
Ok I'm almost completely lost as to what this thread is about exactly, but if it's only about 'zeta ...' whatever - then I'll say this:
Disclaimer: This is my oh so humble opinion.
Some of the stuff on that site is excellent, and HIGHLY PROBABLE. Someone has to go there, someone has to push the envelope or else we would never get anywhere. People used to think the world was flat. In fact, some people STILL DO. Some people thought Einstein was a loon.
Today's lunacy could be tomorrows cult or idiocy, or it could be tomorrows genious. The fact is that nobody knows, so I think it's important to be open minded no matter what the probability is.
On the other hand, some of the stuff on that site is complete bull$hit. This is the case with just about anything these days. Take what you want from it.
It's way to early on a Monday to be doing this.
Fin.
.02 and a bag-o-doritos -
You guys are missing it.
Is it possible that there are aliens? Sure. Is it probable? No, it's not. "Highly probable"? Not a chance.
Possible: "Capable of being true."
Probable: "Likely to be a reality."
Are you and I, or the keeper of a website purporting to be reporting on alien contact, capable of making a decision in any of these areas? No. Why? Because until the aliens show themselves to ALL OF US, until contact from beyond the grave is ESTABLISHED AS FACT -- scientific, repeatable, testable -- until any of this real proof happens, then we are all just tilting at windmills. Talking about stuff we know little or nothing about. None of us has seen it.
And thus is becomes a "does god exist" discourse. Do you think so? Yes; do you? No. Neither of us has what needs to be had to make a truly informed decision, that is proof. It becomes a matter of faith.
Personally, and frankly, I have none. There are no aliens visiting earth. There is no contact with the dear departed. There are no ghosts and there is no Loch Ness Monster. (Will I still get frightened in a creepy old house at midnight? You bet. Will a ghost pop out and scare me? Probably not.)
"Wacky ideas" do not "push the envelope." Einstein's ideas were not wacky. In fact, no one thought they were. That's a myth. Darwin's idea was not wacky; no one thought it was. It's a myth. "People laughed at so and so for thinking such and such." Some probably did -- the vatican certainly always encourages it -- but in general new ideas that are backed by concrete evidence and can be scientifically checked and rechecked are not considered wacky by anyone but fringe group luddites with nothing better to do.
Once again I repeat my two catch phrases for this topic: Possibility is not the same as probability, and extraordinary claims demand extraordinary proof. And I ask, where's that proof? Convince me that this stuff is true. Convince me! As a believer, that's your task.
Get out your library card and check these books out, unless, that is, you're afraid of rational thought getting in the way of the aliens and the voices from beyond:

If we cannot simply provide facts / data as to why one speaker cable betters another, why would we even fathom obtaining any REAL proof of the voodoo previously mentioned in this post.

I find it interesting how people who generally do not believe in something unless they can touch it, feel it, etc, often subscribe to probables, maybe's and what-if's.
<<
Nope, you're missing it again.
Probable is not the same as maybe or what-if. And probable is very different from possible.
I don't believe it till I see it, and I subscribe to probables, not to maybes and what-ifs.
Stop and think about it. Possible is not the same as probable. It's the key to a reality-based understanding of our world.
No one is able to debate this with me? Where are the DEBATERS?! I am SALIVATING! BRING ON THE LITTLE GREEN MEN! BRING EM ON! GRRRRRR GRRRRR!
MC -
Ok micah. You are saying that out of the billions of stars out there, that it is not highly probable that there is a planet somewhere out there with life on it?
