Rotel Pre-amp release cycle?

Not sure if that title was clear.

Reason for asking of course is in planning my own upgrade path. I was thinking of going the dedicated pre-amp route after a few more upgrades and was looking at the Rotel 1069 which many had thought should have included all the bells and whistles of some of the integrated recievers (HDMI 1.3a, DD Digital HD, DTS-HD internal decoding, etc) released in the last several months.

How long before Rotel would release an update to this recently released pre-amp (Sept '07 release date)? Of course speculation is all we have but does Rotel update them on an annual basis?

Ive been so preoccupied with HDTV releases that I havent really paid much attention to the release cycle for recievers, pre-amps, sound processors, etc.

My money will be tied up with other upgrades (Xbox 360, Bluray player, 5 channel amp, LSiC, etc) until the fall so no huge rush, but wish to 'plan' my upgrade path the best I can.

I was thinking I would eventually upgrade my Denon 2807 with a Denon AVR 4308 but than thought what the hell am I spending nearly two grand on that when I could invest that into a seperate which may be better.

    Hello,
Rotel does not have any bells or whistles. Hell it doesn't have HDMI 1.3a for that matter it does not have HDMI 1.2, it's so bad it only has HDMI 1.1 so any processing has to be done in the Blu or HD player you buy IF you decide the rsp1069 is for you.
Honestly I was sweating the release then I saw the spec's. I didn't buy it. I was going to preorder it as well and glad I didn't. I currently own Rotel seperates and I'm extremely depressed they killed there new preamp. O but they spent some money adding 3 zones of 2 channel audio for multiroom audio.. Yeah it needed that over HDMI 1.3a. Yeah thats exaclty what I wanted, more zones. I don't even use zone 2 out. I have another system for house music.

Right now it sucks to buy seperates unless your into older gear. Then there is a ton of killer stuff out there.

    Thanks Mantis for your comments.

However I am still curious whether Rotel and other 'seperates' manufacturers update their gear on an annual basis or every couple of years?

You're lucky if Rotel updates every 5 yrs! That's an exageration but not by much. And even when they do they are still usually 2 yrs behind current applications.

I love Rotel products but, I can't wait around forever for them to update, to still be left behind.

We see eye to eye hear. I'm so disappointed in the rsp1069. I'm not waiting around. I got movies to enjoy.

Thanks guys ... I too wont be waiting around that long so although I may stick with their amps at this point I probably will drift to others for the pre-amp section.
