Need Speaker Selection Advice
Im upgrading my surround system
speakers first. What is to remain of my old speaker system is:
Center Polk CS245I
Woofer Polk PSW202
The other speakers in my present system are not worth mentioning. They have to go. I must go much smaller.
My questions concern new front and back speakers. The wife wants very small (i.e. Bose). I want performance (within my budget). My wife will compromise with the Polk RM8 speakers. We listened to them recently and liked the sound.
For reference my present receiver is Sony STR DE975. It is to be upgraded within the next several months. Presently leaning toward Onkyo 805.
My questions:
1. Will the RM8s fit in with the CS245i? My concern is that the 2-51/4 speakers in this center speaker will be too much for the RM8s.
Another option I have considered is to purchase the RM95 system that includes an RM8c center speaker and use my CS245i center speaker as the rear speaker in a 6.1 arrangement.
2. Are there other options/speakers I should consider?
Thanks for your help.

Guys, here we have a new member [welcome schoony, by the way] that has mentioned that he is considering..............I can't bring myself to say it, but it starts with a "B". Nobody chimed in after all this time? *shocked*
I'd give advise but I'm one of those 2 channel guys. Oh, wait. I can offer something. I'm not knocking that "B" word as a surround but in the HT systems that I have had my ears on, the most amount of audible distortion came from them. They are ear fatiguing to say the least.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
Thanks for the welcome treitz3.
Please be assured that I am not considering the 'B' speakers. My assessment of these speakers is similar to yours. I only mention them because my wife is infatuated with the size and to impress that size will matter in my final selection. -
Scrap them all, sell them off and start over. I would look into the new VM series. Very small but have a huge punch.
Now an even better idea is to get inceiling speakers for eveything. this is a huge WAF. Not to mention some of the very best sounding theaters I have Installed used all Inceiling speakers. Get yourself a better sub and be happy.

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
If you are on a budget, take a look at the RM8000T (RM50T) speakers on ebay, from POLK Direct. You can end up with a fully warrantied new pair for around $500. I have two sets I bought at Tweeter (for around $700/pair) when they were closing. The are affordable quality speakers. They also have smaller versions RM7400T (RM40T).[
